I will be spending about 5 days this August in Louisville and I was just wondering if you any of you have any advice on things to do, places to eat, where to stay?

Thank you!

Number one is the Louisville Slugger Museum, they have a great tour. Check out the 21C hotel art gallery. Those are both within a couple of blocks of each other. The whole area around there has a lot to do.
Check out the Bardstown Road area, shops restaurants, bars etc. If your young and stupid attempt the Bambi walk on Bardstown Rd. It consists of having a drink at every bar on the road.
If you have time and a car consider visiting some of the bourbon distilleries. And of course there is Churchill Downs. Also the Falls of the Ohio(river) park is cool if you like geology type stuff.
There is also Lebowski fest-but I can't remember when it is
We live up river in Cincinnati so Louiville is one of our go to spots for a weekend getaway.

Have visited L'ville once, July 2010 --- we stayed downtown, just across the street from the river. Highlight of the trip was a viisit to Churchill Downs - take the "behind the scenes" tour, to me worth the price, i think around $20, maybe less. No racing that time of year, but still neat to see. You'll hear a lot about "4th Street" as being the place to be downtown, but I found it to be very small and over-rated, just my opinion. The Louisville Slugger museum is neat, if you're into baseball there is a minor league team in Louisville, can't remember the team. Oh, and they have White Castle burger joints there, first time I've seen one. If you like to gamble, there's a casino just across the river into Indiana. No comp drinks, pay as you go, unlike the Gulf Coast. Enjoy ----

I live just across the river in Indiana. 4th steet live is downtown and a cool party place. You can go for a ride on the Belle of louisville(steam paddle boat). Slugger field has some good minor league baseball. I agree with the other post the highlands on bardstown road is fun. I will post more later as I think of them. Horses will not be running in august at Churchill. They do still have a good tour, so I have been told I have never went on it. The name of the team is the Louisville Bats.
