It seems that the 30% increase in taxi fares has resulted in a 20% decline in usage. Local buses and colectivos are reaping the rewards.

Also...the fare increase was not approved by SINTRA - the governing body that must approve the increase. I'm sure they will, eventually.

not sure what the new fare is
but if you get out before the gate, it will be a lot less
That's good to know! Thanks

So typical here. Business is slow so they raise prices.

i called my friend
he will bring me a sheet tomorrow

they are for sale, hahahahaha

i also toiok a cab home after i spoke with him
he told me the fare was now 20 pesos, before it was 17
this doesn't hurt me at all, it hurts the poor guy who is driving the cab for the owner
(i always gave 20 pesos, i don't care what loo thinks)
when i mentioned this, he knew exactly what i was talking about

i was sharing the cab, i told the cabbie to pick up the other guy cause he was going in the same directionj
when the guy gave him a fifty, he asked him if he wanted change

hope is good, no problem
i told him to be nice to everyone
we talked about cicero, illinois, where he lived previously
he will learn quickly how to take advantage of the people who are uninformed in spite of my advice

While off topic, I can relate ...

After returning a car rental in cancun a few weeks ago they tried to get me for damage to the vehicle. This despite the fact that I purchased full insurance coverage with a zero deductible. After things got VERY heated the policia became involved. I was told point blank by the police that if I did not pay I would be taken to the police station until it could be worked out.

Of course they all knew I had a flight in two hours. And I still wonder how much the cop made on the deal. Despite being right I ended up paying. On the credit card slip I signed my name as "Under Protest". I got my money back from Visa ....

But it was touch and go with them for a bit ... all over a few dollars. And I almost got dragged away by the local constabulatory.

So I am with you. I applaud those who hold out ... but I'm not down for a huge argument over a few dollars.

And yeah I'm still alive ... Just in Tulum (for the most part) these days.

Good thing they don't do stuff like that in the USA!

i saw a sheet last nite
it was dark and they really did not want me to look too closely
but at the "sitio" at la quinta and tenth street they were in a festive mood
charging 70 pesos minimum

walk one block away from any sitio is my advice
i am still paying the same 20 pesos i always paid before
of course, i don't think i will be getting the happy face i used to get

but the fare to and from playacar is now 70 pesos

still waiting on my friend, he was supposed to get me one yesterday

Thanks. So from Walmart or Mega, 30 pesos, in zone 1 or maybe
a bit more?

I think you should have no problem paying $30 pesos from Walmart or Mega within Zone 1. Figure $20 pesos for the fare + $5 pesos from the que + $5 pesos (1. in case the additional fare from the que has increased too and/or 2. to avoid any BS/altercation with the taxi driver, if that is worrisome to you).
