One of my pet peeves here at the slice places is that they don't put on enough sauce, and this pizza had plenty of it, lots of oregano, and a really nice, thin crust. It was perfect!!! We will for sure go there again. I never expected to rave about a slice place like this, but I am pleasantly surprised.
And I had 2 slices of Renzo's pizza last night and, after all of these years, I still love Renzo's. I have always heard not so good things about Pizza Banana's pizza -so I never tried it. Now I will.

the service was attentive and there was a round of drinks on the house
whoever says pummarola is slipping is off the mark

I have always liked Renzo's, too...we went there first and all they had left were three dried out, really old slices and they said that they couldn't make us a whole pizza because they didn't have any ingredients.

I had never really heard anything great about Pizza Banana, either. I had my doubts. But boy oh boy was I happily surprised!!!!!

Funny you say this, we almost skipped Pummarola this trip because of the location move and some negative posts. Luckily we saw their sign for $60 peso margarhetia pizza and stopped in. Excellent crust, great pizza and only $60 (half the menu price). We got bruchetta also which was great too.
We drove by the old location on 42nd and it looks like they just shut the lights off, everythings still the same. They did have a sign up saying closed for remodeling and gave the new location.

If it ever reopens - it won't be anytime soon (at least that's what Denato told me).

as new yawkers, we have never tried any of the pizza places down in playa on the assumption it would not compare... but we are willing to try if we can be convinced that the place can compete with REAL ny pizza...

anyone?

Piolla's is our favorite but for a slice Pizza Renzo on 5th near 26th is good, particularly if you get it just out of the oven. Large rectangular pans of pizza just like in Rome.
