Visiting for first time

I am a visiting playa del carmen for first time in April; we are mid/late 20's professionals from the east coast staying at an all inclusive resort and looking for feedback on things to do.

Should we stay on the resort for the week, or do you recommend anything in particular locally that is worth a visit.

You'd be doing yourself a disservice staying on the resort grounds.
Not that I'm anti-AI...but...
Playa has a lot to offer - great bars, restaurants and shopping.
There is tons of information about Playa to be found here.

If you have never snorkeled, Try visiting Akumal or a couple of cenotes.

Check out the "Read More" section on this site. Touring some Mayan ruins is fun to do.

Be sure to go into town and roam around 5th ave at night. There are all kinds of bars and restuarants and discos to dance the night away. Catch a fire dancers show if you can.

We always do all inclusive too but defiantely get off of the property and explore! That is what my husband and I enjoy the most is walking and exploring and speaking with the locals etc... Gotta do 5th ave during the day and night, do some trips and visit Walmart, lol... I know it sounds crazy but it's very interesting actually.. If you want more ideas I suggest you go to the trip report section and look at peoples reports and pics, that will give you tons of ideas!! Hope you enjoy!!
