I liked the finale, too. Arya has her coin to Braavos. Cool to see what's his name's face change at the end.

White Walkers! They did that without it managing to be cheesy, imo.

I don't remember Dany imprisoning the Quarth dude (who I've dubbed Othello) and her maid? But that was a good resolution. Now those dragons need to grow up.

Khal Drogo. Can't they manage to magic him back next season?

Jon Snow's expression after he kills Half Hand. Heartbreaking. He is so perfect in that role. I can't wait for him to get with Yigrette. Crows need sex. It's a stupid rule.

Now, did the Iron guys take Theon? I'm confused. Was that the Bastard?

Osha rules.

I'm curious how the storyline with Theon will go from here - with no Reek. At least, not yet.

Would have preferred that the showmakers remained a bit more faithful to the Robb marriage storyline, though - with him not telling anyone including his mother ahead of time.

And the Others / White Walkers (or riders, as the case turns out ) - sweet.

All in all, I thought it was a good wrap up to a good season.

Cannot wait for Season 3!!
I thought it was just okay.

Too much variation from the book, but I should just expect that.

There was so much to wrap up and too little time.

For example, the Theon story lacked so much of what happened in the book as far as Bastard Bolton etc, and I don;t know how the Greyjoy men got out of Winterfell alive, unless it was on the decree of Robb that they will be pardoned if they deliver Theon.

The House of the Undying was way different and I thought anticlimactic. I liked how in the book she was given specific instructions on doors to enter, etc.. and the meeting with the undying at the end before torching the place. I was lolooking forward to how they would portray that whole scene.

Oh well.

I am reading book four and enjoying it. However, I admit to difficulty keeping new and some older characters straight.

In the book, Dany and her dragons burn down the House of the Undying, but after that I think she just decides to leave Qarth - I don't remember her killing Xaro (although Othello totally works, too!). One thing from the book that was left out of this episode (although they will probably pick it up at the beginning of season 3), is that she meets two somewhat important characters as she is leaving Qarth.

As for Theon in this episode - the last we saw of him, he was knocked out by his own men and they were quitting Winterfell to head back to Pyke.

Cut to the scene of Osha, Hodor and the boys coming out of the crypt, and Winterfell's been sacked and burned.

The question is - what happened in between those two scenes? Winterfell was under siege, so I doubt that the Ironborn could have just walked out of there in the middle of the day. Although if they did leave, they could have trashed the place before they left, I suppose. I suspect that The Bastard must be involved, but we have to wait until next season to figure out how the showmakers bring that all together.

I agree - I wished they had made it into a two-hour season finale, then perhaps they could have kept some of the story lines closer to the book.

I also really enjoyed Maester Luwin's scenes. Him telling Theon that he's not the man he's pretending to be. The moment by the god's wood with Osha and the boys.

Poor Sansa.

That interchange between Luwin and Theon was awesome - the tragedy in Theon's response, especially for the book readers who know what's coming.

BTW - did you know that Theon is Lily Allen's younger brother IRL? Fun fact.

Well, Lily certainly got all the looks in the family- he is one homely man! Although perfectly cast for what lies ahead...methinks.

I liked the finale, 2 hours would have been better- but we really enjoyed it.

I agree it is frustrating how they are changing some storylines so drastically, especially Daenarys'.

Don was irritated at the Winterfell sacking- "Wasn't it NORTHMEN surrounding them? Why did they (Osha, Hodor, Bran and Rickon) not go with them then? Why would Northmen wreck Winterfell??" I had no answers.

Tyrion!

I thought Sansa left with the Hound!

I have to say, while it completely strayed from the book, the scene when they knocked Theon out after the rousing speech he gave was funny. I think we'll see him in the hands of the Bastard, just like in the book and some disgusting scenes to come next season with poor Theon.

Overall was disappointed with the entire season. Not so much the straying from the storyline stuff but I thought the writing was weak and the acting didn't seem as good as last season. Maybe I was in the honeymoon/obsession stage in Season 1 and now it's worn off & I just expected too much. I even found Tyrion a bit on the blah side this season.

I will say that I love anything with Jon and anything with Arya. I will continue to watch it because of those 2 characters. I'm also interested to see how they take the Sansa storyline - how close they stick to the book. Oh, and VERY interested to watch Joffrey's wedding scene.

It's been a while but I think we will get the whole story about what happened at winterfell will be revealed in book 5...could be 4 but I think it's in Dance with the Dragons.

Did anybody notice that the white walkers in last night episode looked alot different than the white walker That Jon Snow killed at the wall? And why would they carry weapons?

Also, I don't remember that many of them b/c in the book Sam killed them with the dragonstone and saved a bunch of the Night's Watch. I don't see how he could even come close to doing the damage they said he did in the book.

Rumor has it that Joff's wedding won't be until Season 4; they're planning on splitting Book 3 into two seasons, with a very logical season finale planned for the end of season 3, if you know what I'm talking about...

IIRC, the events around the sacking of Winterfell were intentionally cloudy to the readers because we didn't have any point of view character chapters from anyone that was there except Theon. The only way we learned about it was from word of mouth news from other characters a long distance away.

You're right, Rita. We didn't really find out until book 5.

I'm not sure, since I didn't see the episode last night, but there are "white walkers" and there are "wights;" two different things.

From reddit, a guide to tell the difference.

Well, then..Wights & White Walkers were hanging out together in last night's episode....and it still doesn't make sense why Sam didn't kill any.

yet....The scene ended with him hiding and then being spotted.. We will just have to wait till the next season to find out what happens with Sam.
