La Sirenas restaurant has closed... and reopened
La Sirena Cevicheria restaurant (site was formerly Negrosal on calle 16 between AV. 1 & 5) has closed. It did not last long.

This surprises me
I visited this place when it opened and thought they had a good formula. It looked open and inviting and the menu was interesting with seafood as their base attraction. I thought that the location was not bad either, even though it did not help the ill-fated Negrosol.
That it closed so quickly is a surprise, but from my experience this happens when the rent is too high to support the pangs of a new venture that needs some time to get on its feet. Landlords are often too grasping with their restaurant tenants and do not help them to establish themselves with a low initial rent. It is an axiom in the business that a restaurant makes its money when it signs the lease. This is too bad, because it will take some time before another restauranteur takes a chance on a location that has failed spectacularly twice in an off-5th Street location in an expensive rental. Look for an empty space in the foreseeable future. |
