Hi, were in Playa in February. We took a bus to Puerto Morelos and hired a boat to take us to the reefs for snorkelling. There were 14 people in total, along with the guide that snorkelled with you and a fellow that stayed in the boat. They took you to 3 different spots to snorkel, life jackets, snorkels, fins were supplied. The tirp was approximately 2 hours and the cost was $22.00 US per person. Great deal.

We also did a whole day snorkelling excursion (75.00 US per person) which included lunch, equipment and snorkelling in a cenote, cave and ocean. I can't remember the name of the tour company right now, however we took it from an all-inclusive resort (Copacabana). Really nice as well, but preferred the one from Peurto Morelos. Not as many people.

Have a great time.

Dianne, thank you that sound just like what we are looking for. The first one you said. We will be meeting up with people down there and see if a group wants to do something like that. Perfect. One week to go cant wait. Weather is perfect down there right now hope it stays that way.

Hi Pam,

I remember reading a post on another forum that someone did a snorkel trip through a dive shop and it was twice as long and half the price as the snorkelling excursions offered at the resort. I booked a dive trip online through Sealife and I noticed they offer snorkelling excursions too at reasonable prices:

Cheers,

Dianne,

How did you find out about the $22 excursion? What I mean is, where did you go to sign up and pay for it? Was transportation to/from included in the price? If so, from where does the transportation leave?

Tx.

Hi SandyDee. We took the Riviera bus from Playa to Puerto Morelos (16 pesos each). It dropped us on the highway, then we took a cab to the beach. There are a number of places that offer the snorkelling tour. We happened to be on the dock when some people were going out snorkelling and asked the boat driver if we could go on their next trip. He directed us to go to a small hut where we paid, then met him back there about 3 hours later. Hope this is what you're after...

Chankanaab

If you don't need a guided tour, Chankannab would be a good choice. We took the boat over to Cozumel, then took a taxi to the park and only paid $10 to get in. They rent the snorkel equipment right there. The water is deep and clear and so many varieties of fish to look at. They also had "snuba" which was on the other side. That looked like alot of fun. We also got to shop and eat at "Carlos and Charlie's" while we were in Cozumel.

how to book tours in Puerto Morelos

You can book snorkelling trips here in Puerto Morelos with the co-op on the pier which is pot luck who you get or through any of our dive shops. All charge the same rate US20 for the tour and $2 for the National park fee. We supply gear and water and you get a guide for each boat of maximum 8 people. let us know if we can help you all to see our beautiful National Park in the best conditions. Lots of other tours to do here as well
