Reef Coco Beach beginnings of trip report

Okay, I admit it. I've been back since Sunday and I haven't yet cut off my cheesey all-inclusive bracelet. I just don't have the heart and I'm hoping some local bartender might honor it...

I guess I'm just not ready to let go of the Playa.

Dismiss any negative reviews you have read of Reef Coco from your mind. We had a tremendous, spectacular, fabulous, perfect time. The hotel was clean, great shower and water pressure, PIPING HOT. Our view overlooked the pool and from the deck we enjoyed a beautiful view of the ocean.

Food always available and good, but I don't really travel for food. I'm more interested in location and interesting stuff to do and interesting people to meet. 20 minute walk from downtown PDC, easy walk, safe day and night, by beach or road. Both restaurants in hotel were excellent. The Italian was great, the Mexican was great, though other people at the hotel didn't care for the Mexican. I got something (can't remember the name, too many of those free drinks ) in a clay pot, rice, shrimp, calamari, mussels, it was soooo good and soooo hot! I don't think it stopped steaming for over an hour!

More than anything the staff is wonderful. So friendly, courteous, hard working, always smiling and pleasant. All of the staff - from the desk people, shop people, animation people, bartenders, dive shop people, everybody was excellent. As were the people in town. Such a warm place to visit.

Also went to Reef Club Playacar and am still sadly wearing that all inclusive bracelet as well. I know, I'm so cheesey I can't even look at myself without crackers. But that hotel was great too and not far away at all. Don't believe anyone in Playa about how far away everything is. I guess walking isn't a big thing around there, maybe it just gets too hot in later months, but we walked easily from Reef Club Playacar to the Cozumel Ferry dock and Senor Frogs which we quickly departed as we can go to a bar like that any time down here on the Cape.

The pool was chilly, almost too chilly for me to finish my resort scuba class, but plenty warm enough when that sun was baking down. The beach is clean, the water warm and hyperactively clear. You can walk for a good mile and a half up the beach to the north without a soul in sight, round the point and there in the distance - naked people!! Not many, but a good handful of nude bodies enjoying the sun and surf.

I have so much more to add about a great time, great hotel - TEQUILLA VOLLEYBALL!!! - great town, but the kids must be put to bed!

In short, don't second guess your choice of Reef Coco Beach. I was worried after reading bad reviews, but they must have been from the first opening days. The hotel is beautiful, the staff wonderful and it's all good. 8)

So nice to see a good Reef Coco Beach Report, we were there when the place was 3 days old, and my report would have been the same as yours word for word, we loved the place.

Reef Coco Beach

Hi marciakicks

We returned from RCB last Thursday, the 19th and agree with almost everyting you have said regarding the resort.
We did not have hot water for 2 nights during our 14 day stay.
No big deal tho as the cool water is good enough unless you spend a long time in the shower.
Preferred the Italian to the Mexican restaurant.
Also, I have a dive watch that gives the water temperature and checked the temps in the water off the beach and in the pool. The pool temp was 27.8C while the sea temp was 28.3C, a half degree difference.
Enjoyed your trip report so far, keep up the good work.
Time to get rid of the bracelets tho.

The Reef Cocobeach

We will be there for 10 days starting the 31st of March----Sooooo excited as this will be our first trip to this part of Mexico. Would appreciate it if we could get some room numbers from those of you that have stayed at the Reef. We have two rooms booked and would like them to be together, if at all possible. Did anyone attempt to book specific rooms ahead of time? We will be arriving on a Wed at noon. Should we be worried about overbooking in the middle of the week?

Coco Beach

Sunnfun
We were in Rm 2168 right on the beach and about 40 feet from the pool, bottom floor. We had to pay a premium but these rooms can be had if there is nothing else available.
There are people coming and going everyday and in the evenings so I would expect overbooking could happen at any time. Noon is probably a good time to arrive altho you will have to wait for your room to be ready.
Things do not happen fast in that part of the world.
Put your shorts on and head for the pool.
Great place to spend 10 days.

I was at the reef coco beach in November with 2 thirteen year old girls ( my daughter and her friend) They are both very picky eaters, both had no trouble finding somthing to eat at any given time during the day, I don't remember hotdogs but pizza and hambergers at the snack bar most of the day, and I am sure they could find somthing they like at the buffet. The staff there were always doing things with the younger kids but I don't think it is a babysitting service. they had balls games ect. that you book out at no cost as well. The water just in front of the resort is quite calm one or two foot waves at most and the beach is very sandy no rocks at all. there is also a kiddy pool blocked off by stepping stones at one end of the pool. I am sure you will have a wonderful time as we did.

Very excited to hear such great things about the Reef Coco Beach.

Going in June with two 9 year old girls and my mother 50ish.. It is going to be a girls week with the dad's and brother all staying back home..

Does anyone know how far the Reef Coco Beach is from the Playa Del Carmen ferry? and what the cost would be from there to the resort?

Autumn,

Here is a link to an aerial view of the coast. You can see the ferry pier and then click the arrows and go toward the right. Just a short distance away you'll see the Reef Coco Beach.

Couldn't cost more than a few dollars to get from the pier to the RCB....unless you want to walk it drag your luggage along the beach.

We did visit Xcarat while we were there and and I highly recommend it. There was a bus/tour you could take I think it was about 75$ pp which included entrance to the park and a ride back to the hotel at lunch(if want to swim with the dophins it is another $100). We just stayed at the park and payed for the the lunch there. $50 for the 4 of us which included a bucket of Corona. I heard someone say the cab was $6 each way which is also a good way to go. I didn't go to the sister hotel Reef Playacar but the cab fare was a flat rate of $10.
