Help with RIU Yucatan in April 04

Im coming to the RUI Yucatan in April. Was wondering about a few things.

- Is Yucatan right on the beach?
- How close is the Yucatan to RIU Playacar? What is the proximity to the RIU Playacar?
- Are the drinks watered down as I've read? What is their domestic beer? Can you get it in a bottle?
- Can someone staying at the Playacar or Yucatan use the the other RIU resorts?
- Should we tip the wait-staff on an all inclusive plan? If so,how much, how often?
- when is the busy season? Will we have a problem getting beach chairs or other land 'stuff'?

Thanks for your help!

** Yes - the Yucatan is right on the beach next door to the Riu Palace.

** From South to North (toward town) it is the Yucatan, The Riu Palace, Viva Maya, and then the Playacar.

**No the drinks are not watered down...Their beer of choice is Corona (in the mini-bar stock) others are available.

**You can use the facilities at all the resorts with the exception of the Palace. That includes breakfast, lunch and snacks...The beach is RIGHT there for the Yucatan...but don't try to get drinks at the Palace Beach Bar -you must use the Yucatan's Bar...Bring an insulated mug to the beach.

**We tipped 1 USD or its equivalent at each meal...if not a $2 bill - and usually after the first drink order and then after the next FEW subsequent orders...

**You will have no problem finding a lounge chair...which you can drag to the beach shoreline from the Palm Grove...

- At the time of our departure, we left our large unopened insulated mugs...a couple unopened underwater cameras...some unopened candies...and some pesos to the housekeeping staff aside from our daily $2 bill....

Yes

It's just a few steps away. the Palace, Playacar and Yucatan are all on the same stretch of beach.

- Are the drinks watered down as I've read? What is their domestic beer? Can you get it in a bottle?

Well, that's a matter of opinion. It seems to be the norm at many hotels. Whether or not they actually water the liquor down or if it just tastes that way is anyone guess. Not sure about the beer, maybe someone else knows?

Staying at the Yucatan, you can use the Playacar and the Tequila, but you cannot eat dinner at any hotel other than your own. You cannot however, go to the Riu Palace (but they can come to the Yucatan).

- Should we tip the wait-staff on an all inclusive plan? If so,how much, how often?

That's up to you. It's always nice to reward good service and the help very much appreciates it. Bring a stack of singles and if one of the staff goes out of their way to take care of you, leave a few bills. Leave $2-$3 on your pillow for the maid everyday too.

- when is the busy season? Will we have a problem getting beach chairs or other land 'stuff'?

Busy season is before Easter. After Easter, it slows down a bit and by the end of April, low season begins. High season starts again in mid June, when the kiddies get out of school and continues until mid Sept, when the price drops yet again.

Thanks for your help!
Welcome

Well Shammy, actually I'll tell you. Anytime someone has a question along the lines of a resort issue....you're right there either the FIRST one mentioned to be a fabulous source....OR you're right there with ALL the answers...

You're a pro, what can I say !!
