Looking for help
Hey everyone!
My name is Vikki and my fiance Chris and I are thinking of honeymooning in the Mayan Riveria in June. We are young (24 and 25) and interested in lots of motorized water sports (parasailing, jetskiing, waterskiing) as well as some romantic stuff (quiet beach, good food, privacy etc..). So far we have heard a lot about Secrets Capri and The Royal Hideaway. We are looking for an all inclusive, quiet, nice beach, good foo type resort does anyone have any suggestions? And any info as to where to wine and dine in Playa del Carmen? Lots of question huh? Sorry!!! Just trying to do some honeymoon homework!! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a bunch!! Vikki and Chris

Secrets Capri and Royal Hideaway are among the nicest (and most expensive) resorts. They are both adults-only and offer many perks. RH gets overwhelmingly positive reviews. Secrets Capri opened recently and is now getting lots of positive reviews after a rough startup period.
You can compare reviews and ratings at http://www.ramproductions.com/survey/topres.asp The links at the top of this (Playa) site have a ton of information about wining and dining in Playa. |

Looking for a private beach try Barcelo Maya, 2km long, not venders, lots of chairs to lounge in. North beach is totally private, my husband and I spent lots of time over there. They have snorkling right in front of the resort, and all the water sports you would need. Its a 15 minute ride to Playa from the resort. So you can still go where ever you need to go. The beach at playa is a busy one by the looks of things, not that its not going to be good we will be there next week, trying somewhere new just because we got a good deal. But we have both said Barcelo beach wont be beat. We liked everything about the resort.

We love Playa, but I wanted to tell you that if motorized water sports are really a high priority for you - when we were there for 8 days in late March early April 03, there was only 1 day that wasn't too windy/choppy to use the jet ski stuff. I don't know if it was just the time of year or what. My sister and her hubby went to a similar all inclusive on about the same week in the Nuevo Vallara area of Puerto Vallarta and she reported pretty beaches and smoother seas. I have no idea if the week we went there was just an unusual week, or if April is generally a windy month, or what. Just thought I would mention it.
JJG (will be back in playa in 29 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes - but who's counting?) |

Vicki,
My husband and I are 31 and going to Secrets in April... We priced and were thinking of the RH and ended up booking Secrets. From all the past posts and sites I searched... it seemed that the RH may be too stuffy and being on the younger end I wanted a nice classy place but not stuffy! The RH was more $$ but that really wasn't my main concern... it was to have fun and love my vacation! Hope this helps....

Thanks for the responses!
Hi!
Vikki and Chris here! Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted a reply to my original plea for help! Lots of your advice came in handy. We are almost 100% sure we are going to book at Secrets Capri, it sounds like it has everything we want. Someone suggested to us that if we wanted to do some motorized water sports to take a cab to playa del carmen and they are available at the beach, anyone have any info on that? Playa del carmen sounds like a fun alternative to go off the resort and party at night, but does anyone know how safe it is? And what average cab fare is to playa? Love to hear some trip reports for those who are going to secrets! Have a great time! Any help is greatly appreciated. If someone would rather email us to fill us in don't hesitate. My email is vbowmast@uwo.ca. Thanks All!! |
