Authentic Greek Food in Playacar
I have been meaning to do this for a while now but after another wonderful experience at Estia, I really have to share this with everyone.
I worked in Greece for two years and fell in love with Greek food. It has been hard to find decent Greek food in Playa but Panos (yes, he is Greek!) at Estia has solved that problem! The restaurant is in Plaza Pakal in Playacar phase 2, between Oxxo and a pizza place and all of the tables are outside so I wouldnt recommend going if it might rain. However, you will be served fantastic authentic Greek dishes and the prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food. I think they do take out as well as I've seen several people coming in to collect orders. But there is no Mythos beer (boo!), they have Dos Equis (yay!). So if you like Greek food this place is a little gem. And now I'm hungry just thinking about the Greek salad, tzatsiki, home made bread and chicken souvlaki, yum! |

I love good Greek food also. OPA's attempt at Greek food failed horribly. If this place is on the far end of Plaza Pakal, the former tenants were from Texas and opened a place called the Authentic Playcar Bistro, or something to that effect. The had been in the restaurant business in Galveston for many years and the hurricane finished them off. They had great food but only lasted 6+ months - this location finished them off. To bad, as this location, no matter how great there food is, will probably, unfortunately, finish these folks off also. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE LOCATION FOR A RESTAURANT. Somewhat hard to find even if you know where it is............or easy to find if you live in Pakal Village! Trust me on this.

I love this restaurant yes it is small and the locating is not great, but it is real greek food.
I lived in Greece for a number of years, this is the best greek food ive had outside of Greece. It opens at 1:30pm and is a great place to stop in the afternoon for a Gyros and Greek Salad. Me and my friends went for there for Pascha (Greek Easter) Panos cooked a Lamb on a Spit there were about 20 of us enjoying the music, food and ouzo. ![]() Estia Playacar | Facebook Estia does take away and free delivery in the playacar area. The only downside is that he doesnt have a drinks licence yet, but the are ways around that. Enjoy Yamas |

I went and ordered take out last night. I ordered tzatziki, a garlic dip, a large Greek Salad with feta and 3 lamb kabobs with a side of pita bread. The food was delicious but the portion sizes and the pricing I found to be off. Certainly not enough for Rob and I to eat and feel satisfied. The lamb brochettes were just 4 small bites of lamb on each. For $40 mn a piece, I was expecting a bit more. The salad at $100 mn was big enough to split and tasty. The bill came to $350 mn. I don't know. I kind of felt like for what I got, it should have been less expensive. Good variety on the menu though. I think I will try it one more time.

Was told by a friend that the owner Panos operated a Greek restaurant in Monterrey, MX but with all of the problems and violence, he relocated to Playa. Again, I don't think very much of his location and with Michele's report, he is going to have to work harder on his food and food pricing among other things. I wish him well but I personally usually don't drive to Playacar to eat a meal.

They would go out of business because I personally wouldn't drive to Playacar to eat lunch/dinner everyday
.Just heard the other night that a big name restauranteur in Playa is having huge financial problems. If I see you around - I will tell you in person. It wouldn't be nice to broadcast this.

I'm going to beg to differ on this! First, the food is fabulous and a great value! Second, it's serving a market that appreciates it's location! Lastly, it's become a real "hang out" for many Playacar Fase 2 neighbors. ....to meet up & enjoy great food! This may not be a tourist recommendation, but us Playacar neighbors really like the atmophere, the food & the owners hospitality. |
