Anyway, I will post more as soon as I can- I hear some oysters calling my name right now.
I know you had better things to do last week, but that would have been the week to be on the cape. Not that you can ever predict the weather around here. Ixchel looks so much like our Zoe- Jeremy agrees I wonder if there's any border collie in her?

Yes, last week would have been much better! Oh well, I'll take the beach no matter what the weather. This rainy morning will be a good time to drink coffee and finish my report.

And yes, we think she looks very much like a little border collie too.

We made our way to Bad Boys where we found Steve at a beachside table and joined him.

Then we saw Rick and Sue at a nearby table and all moved over. And who's this? Tyra! It was so nice to see her as it's really been awhile.... and then Jurgen came along, and it was nice to meet him. And then we were joined by Kat & Gary. Sorry, I didn't take too many pics this night...

A few drinks later we decided to go eat at Carboncitos with Steve. We'd hope to see the others later- Mike Grabow was playing at the Beer Bucket, and there was also a (10th anniversary?) party going on at La Ranita.
I got my fix of tacos al pastor and pumpkin seed salsa and more margaritas. Steve summoned some very entertaining musicians strolling by that he knew.

Ixchel was so sweet and so well behaved. It was just turning into a really wonderful night and I was getting pretty drunk. Before we left Carboncitos Steve noticed Trish and Kelly (bigbadleroy) at another table and introduced us.

We walked off to 10th Street where we found Rick, Sue, Gary and Kat again, and Andy too. We drank a couple of beers and then decided we needed to tuck our new little charge into bed- she was tuckered out (Brian too). I was running on the energy of the whole experience and wanted to find a nightcap to bring back to the hotel. Luckily I didn't find it...

We woke up early on Sunday morning. We didn't have much time left in town and wanted at least to run into Mega for a few spices and dried chilies and other assorted things to bring home. I went in and left Brian watching Ixchel under cover at the edge of the under store parking lot. It had absolutely poured overnight, and was now sprinkling a bit. I came out of the store a short time later and Ixchel barked at me, because of the scary white bags I was carrying, I don't know. That little scrappy puppy might be a good watch dog. Or a little crazy.

We walked along Constituyentes toward 5th, thinking we'd do a little loop on the way back to the hotel, maybe shop a bit more along the way and most importantly have a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat. We found a little bakery and cafe and had pastries and coffee at an outdoor table. A Dutch woman came along and talked with us about Ixchel for a while and showed off pictures of her boxer.

We went back to the hotel after finishing our walk and packed up our things and checked out, waiting at the curb for Gary and Pat who were due shortly to take us to the airport.

We watched the neighborhood all descend upon the pretty church across the street.

After a little while the big red van pulled up and off we went. Gary dropped us off and then parked. He and Kat came in to see that we made it through check in without a problem, and then saw us off. It was nice that they took the time to make sure everything went well.

We had brought a soft sided carrier an inch or two larger than the maximum stated dimensions and were relieved to find that our worries were unfounded. We had absolutely no problems of any kind. We breezed through security- Brian just had to take Ixchel out of the carrier and send it through the x-ray machine, carrying her with him through the gate. She was so good, so well behaved- we couldn't believe, again, just how easy this all was.

We had an overpriced shrimp po' boy, some chicken and a couple of Chope drafts at Bubba Gump while we waited to board our flight.

We occasionally gave Ixchel a couple ice cubes and a puppy biscuit or two, hoping she wouldn't need to go the the bathroom or throw up enroute, but again, no worries. She was as good as gold curled up in her carrier under the seat when we took off, then while placed between us in the empty seat in our row.

Just over 3 1/2 short hours later we landed and hurried off to immigration, customs and the agriculture line. We were the first ones through and in no time were carrying her out to the parking garage where she finally got to stretch. She was still sleepy, though, and curled up in my lap for the hour-long ride home.

Once home she bounced back to life, ran around in the back yard grass, had a little supper and her first encounter with Caramba, which actually went a little better than I'd expected (we will work on that, too). That night she slept in Brian's arms on our bed, inches away from Caramba snuggled up by me.

So that’s the story. I've written this to share our easy, wonderful experience and recommend a rescue like this to anyone who has the room in their hearts and lives to give a new life to a sweet Mexican dog. Your lives will be rewarded tenfold, I know it- just like ours.

What a sweet story!! I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. What an adorable baby you have! Our sweet dog, Mocha, died a little over a year ago and we are still to sad to get another one, but some day it will happen. Perhaps a Playa doggie?

Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience!

Great report! We adopted our dog Bonita from Isla Mujeres eight years ago and it sure brings back memories. What a lucky dog.
