Best Values and ... New Year's Eve

Hi everyone. My wife and are headed to Playa for the first time from Dec. 31 to April 3. Really looking forward to it! I know that many times various items have been discussed on this wonderful forum in the past. Without being lazy (yes I know about the search button) I'm looking for CURRENT opinions on a number of subjects. I'll number them in case you care to respond to one or more.
1) Where's a good spot to go New Year's Eve (our first evening ever in Playa)?
2) Where's a good spot to meet up with other Canadians/Americans?
A whole bunch of best value questions. By best value I mean a combination of reasonably priced and quality.
3) Where can you find a best value dinner in Playa (not on the beach)?
4) Where can you find a best value dinner on the beach?
5) Where is the best value Margarita?
6) Where can you buy the best value wine?
7) Where can you buy the best value beer?
8) Where can you buy the best value groceries?
9) Where can you find the best value daytime on the beach with chairs?
10) What is the best value to get to Chichen Itza?
Any other bests would be very welcome. Look forward to meeting you all!

Just my hurried opinion. Subject to change when I see other opinions.

1) Where's a good spot to go New Year's Eve (our first evening ever in Playa)? Depends on what you want. Biggest (all night) party is along Calle 12 from 10th to the beach. Lower key would be smaller bars. I like Luna Blue.
2) Where's a good spot to meet up with other Canadians/Americans? All over. PGs. Beer Bucket. La Rana. Luna Blue. Bad Boys. Zenzi.
3) Where can you find a best value dinner in Playa (not on the beach)? Util Pasta
4) Where can you find a best value dinner on the beach? La Tarraya (best food? No. Best value? Maybe)
5) Where is the best value Margarita? Luna Blue margarita gets rave reviews.
6) Where can you buy the best value wine? Sam's. Mega. Walmart. Best value - not necessarily the best selection.
7) Where can you buy the best value beer? Same as above.
8) Where can you buy the best value groceries? Same as above and Chedraui and Soriana.
9) Where can you find the best value daytime on the beach with chairs? El Pirata. Again, best value. Not the best beach club.
10) What is the best value to get to Chichen Itza? Bus

Babaloo had excellent replies, so the only input I will put in is El Fogon for #3 and Manne's for #5.

Hmmm...the best?
A lot of people like Mamitas or Kool and don't mind the high prices and the house/techno music playing. Good food and people watching. As a local, those two don't fit into my budget.
I like Zenzi Beach. Great fish and chips! The music isn't overbearing. A good happy hour.
Bad Boys isn't bad and has the widest beach north of the pier. Food is average but beer is cheaper than Zenzi (and definitely cheaper than Mamitas/Kool)

Best is a pretty subjective term.

Let us know what you most want in a beach club and then folks will be better able to answer you.

I was talking about best quality; combination of decent price and quality. But YOUR best is welcome too!

I don't require much. I like El Pirata, but many folks like more action. We tend to go early and be off the beach by 2 pm unless we are meeting friends on the beach for a drink later on in the day, or going to a club for entertainment in the evening.

We enjoyed Fusion Hotel's beachfront one night.

Bad Boys is all right, but I mainly like it cause people congregate there. Reminded me quite a bit of a college bar where I worked, only with older students and on the sand . It can be fun.

Cold beer, decent food, a waiter who checks on us occasionally and a nice lounger from which to watch people walk by satisfies me.

I will not pay for a lounger.

Thanks so much Babaloo, January Guy and Roni! It's great to have the insider information before setting out. Like Roni, I don't want to pay for loungers either. Cold drinks, a free lounger and some atmosphere sound great.

January Guy can also recommend the best places to strip down to your Speedo (and then some) , sing, and slam tequila til you ought not too !

I highly recommend reading his last trip report.......it will go down as a classic.
