UK's News of the World scandal
Sunday was the final edition, and I have been following this story a bit. Having never read this paper, maybe a Brit can chime in: was it a tabloid like The National Inquirer?

Yes, it had the reputation of being a total rag. I remember growing up and sneaking a peek at it wherever I found it. Was popular with the younger men because almost every page had some degree of nudity. My parents would not allow it in the house. But I should qualify this statement and point out that it's been years since I lived there, and it may have changed considerably before it's demise. |

It was trash for the most part, but tabloids have played a very different, and much more important role in the UK than in other countries. As dirty as their motivations might be, they've obviously been doing some very intrusive investigative journalism and they've exposed many politicians, royals, and businessmen (oh, and George Michael) for being more than a bit naughty. I recommend the "House of Cards" TV series where a fictional newspaper (I think it was called The Chronicle) employs wiretaps, extortion, police ties, etc. to break stories of the kind NOTW might. In part it's like a play by play of current event except it's more than a few years old...

Damn. The British Parliament is fiery! I thought after the PM's testimony that he was in the clear, then the Labour party dude got up and creamed him. Is it possible he didn't know about Coulson after all of those warnings?
