"Booze Cruise" or Pirate ship. Swim up bar at Ibeostar Quetzal

Hello, my wife and I will be traveling to playa on the 21st. We will be staying at the Iberostar Quetzal. This is our second time in playa and 6th time to Mexico. In Puerta Vallarta we really enjoyed the pirate ship dinner cruise. We see that there are “booze cruises” that leave out of Cancun as well as a pirate ship that have pick up services from playa. First off, which one is better? Secondly, what is the preferred way to acquire tickets? We have purchased tickets for different excursions from the hotel lobby and have had good luck. With the internet age, is there a safe website to buy these tickets from? Lastly, my wife is disappointed with the way the swim up bar looks at the resort. We usually stay at Riu resorts and stayed at the Riu Playacar last year, which we have always enjoyed. Is it something worth fretting about or is it enjoyable atmosphere (she likes to party and have fun)? Thanks for the help

Can't really answer the question about booze cruises, other than to say I believe they all leave from Cancun so you'd have to get there, or be transported there to take one. There are tour reps in the hotel lobby that can help you book them and will provide you with info on which are available, or you can book something of your own choosing online - no issues with this.

The swim up bar at the Tucan/Quetzal is a separate pool from the main pool, and only adults are allowed in, no kids in that pool. I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy the atmosphere or have fun there but that's really more personal opinion and personal experience than fact.

Myself and six friends were in Playa last week and went on the Caribbean Carnival Booze Cruise. We had a lot of fun doing it and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip, among plenty of other things.

We booked through Entertainment Plus, and they were offering a special at the time for 56 dollars for the cruise plus 10 a person for round trip transportation. It was the cheapest I saw anywhere, booking it at the place was 90 so it seemed like a good deal to me and worth it.

Drinks are unlimited and you can get anything you want but they generally make them very weak so we were basically full of liquid before we were even drunk. We learned by the end of the night to start asking for our rum and cokes with "mas ron" The hosts of the cruise were very energetic and fun and we had plenty of dancing and entertainment and they made everyone feel at ease and relaxed. The food once we got to Isla Mujeres wasnt outstanding but it was better than I had been expecting. Overall I was very impressed. If you want any more information feel free to PM me

We stayed 3 times at the IB Quetzal and stumbled out of that pool bar on many an occasion. How much "fun" you have there is dependent on who else is there, I guess. Sometimes it was a bit on the quiet side, but generally, if you get a bunch of people on vacation sitting around a pool bar, someone (or more) will get rowdy or funny and lots of laughs can be had.

We will also be arriving at theTucan/Quetzal on 7/21.
This will be our second time there.
Let me tell you that we had a great time in the Adult pool with the swim up bar the last time we were there.
It does depend on the crowd at the time.
As I recall, it is a little quiet during the mid day. But, things pick up in the late afternoon. I expect that we will be there just about every afternoon.
Hope to see you there.

We stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel last year for a family wedding. It was our first and only stay at an all-inclusive. We went to the swim-up bar in the morning, before it became the "P" bar in the afternoon, if you know what I mean. On the bright side, the food (which I was not looking forward to) was actually very good!

Rather than do a "booze cruise" out of Cancun, why not do the Fat Cat out of Puerto Aventuras? You get to sail on a beautiful catamaran, with open bar, snorkeling, boom-netting...it's really a great day.

We had out wedding on this boat and we are going back again for a sail this week. I really love it!

I didn't even know you guys had gotten married, maybe I missed that. Did you post any photos? I mean, so many of us "spied" on your relationship budding, your car trip down, the anticipation of your arrival, etc etc... would love to see a photo of your wedding, the culmination of your romantic story!

In the off-topic section, I just posted a slide show under the thread, "Congrats to Rick and Sue."

I gotta say...we were on the Fat Cat today and it is SUCH a fun trip!!! The rum punch they serve is super strong, the sailing is so nice and relaxing, and there are two stop-off points where you can get in the water. At the first there is snorkeling. I could just keep going on that trip again and again, if I could afford it!
