Please be careful when snorkeling in Akumal. When I was there last week, I had the sickening misfortune to witness a couple of snorkelers smash a large coral with their fins, while they were trying to get a pic.

I'm getting to where I may not be able to go to the bay anymore. I'm tired of having to confront careless people that are disrespectful and destructive, all for the sake of their own enjoyment. I know the volunteers are doing the best that they can...but there's way too many tourists that seem to have the attitude that the reef and wildlife are put there for their personal entertainment. I'll never forget seeing that coral go flying off the end of that fin in slow motion.

I know exactly what you are saying, I have a saltwater tank, SO I know how delicate corals are! I admire how the reef eco system works and how amazing it is. I will take care when snorkeling.

My wife & I will be in Playa in 16 days & plan on going snorkeling. Akumal looks like the spot. Thank you all for your input, especially Priya. I think we will be watching the video.
