Each time Tim Tebow steps on the field for the New York Jets, defenses will know what to expect.

Well, the unexpected, of course.

The versatile and elusive quarterback with the flair for comeback victories was acquired Wednesday from the Denver Broncos and will give the Jets’ offense a boost — for at least a few snaps a game.

He won’t start as he did in Denver, not with New York committed to Mark Sanchez. But Tebow gives the Jets the option to run the wildcat offense and provides an intriguing presence when games are on the line.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum says there’s no doubt Sanchez is still “our guy,” and coach Rex Ryan says “there will be no problem at all” having the quarterbacks co-exist.

What's this "wildcat offense?"

According to reliable sources close to Colin Cowherd of ESPN radio:

Tim Tebow himself was the driving factor to keep the Jets deal alive. Jacksonville offered a better draft pick position and MORE money than Denver was asking for.

Tebow pushed for NY while playing the "Garsh I wanna play in my hometown" card.

Even Timmy knows he'll get more national attention in NY than Florida.

Veeery interesting.

Given that what we’d long suspected is now confirmed – Broncos executive vice president John Elway and Denver’s other top decision-makers never really believed in him – Tebow’s ability to rally his teammates to a stunning AFC West title and overtime playoff upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers seems especially impressive.

Now, unlike with last year’s lockout-induced dead zone, let’s give the kid an entire offseason to devour an offensive system and apply his much-heralded work ethic to improving his craft, and maybe, just maybe, his growth curve will soar like one of his pinpoint deep balls against the Steelers’ top-ranked defense in January.

Should it go down that way – with the City That Never Sleeps embracing the Quarterback Who Couldn’t Throw – we’ll see a wave of euphoria that makes Linsanity look like the Empire State Building to Tebowmania’s King Kong.

And that, without a doubt, would be a distraction the Jets would happily tolerate.

As a long suffering Jets fan, and a New York Knicks season ticket holder for the last 20 years, I would disagree that Tebowmania in New York would ever reach Linsanity proportions. The Garden is nuts these days, when you leave everyone seems to have lost their voice cheering. A large part of the Linsanity phenomena is cultural, I have never seen so many Asians in the Garden. They come out for Lin.

Tim Tebow is a great college QB and even a better person. He just finished building a clinic in the Philippines with his own money to serve the very poor and spends all his free time there working in the jungles to help the needy. It is really hard not to like him. I just wish he could throw the ball.

Unfortunately, the Jets paid a ton of money and draft picks for a guy that can only be used sporadically during the game. I hope I am wrong and he does well.

But it they're claiming that Sanchez is still number one, then doesn't a "sporadic" use of Tebow make sense? And what better to confound the other team, who won't know when they'll be up against some kind of wildcat strategy or the other one where no one ever moves an inch but there are some great throws?

As far as the comparison to Linsanity, I don't know New Yorkers as well as you do. But, Rex Ryan is already getting randomly tebowed in restaurants by fans. (that sounds wrong)

Also, chicks dig Tebow. He's, like, totally adorable.

I am suprised the talk in here is more about a worse than average QB and not more about bountygate and the Saints.

You are correct, however most teams will know as soon as Tebow is lined up as QB that it is likely going to be a running play and they will play a run defense, not being too worried that he will pass. Now, if he surprises the defense with a few unexpected pass completions, than it changes things.

The female Jets fans already think Sanchez is adorable so he will have competition from Tebow in more than one area.

How will Tebow’s new teammates receive his godliness?

“That’ll be very curious,” Lucas, the pastor, said. “New Jersey is the land of ‘The Sopranos’ and Snooki. A lot of people say New Jersey is a graveyard for the Christian faith, but the graveyard is where resurrections take place.”

NEW YORK—Despite an obvious display of enthusiasm for Tim Tebow's arrival at his introductory press conference Monday, the New York Jets admitted this week to concerns he may become distracted by the city's wild churchlife. "Manhattan offers worship services at all hours of the day, with some places bearing witness to the Good News till 4 a.m.—not to mention all those millions of nonbelievers walking around to convert—and a young player with a healthy thirst for Christianity could really have himself some fun here," said Jets coach Rex Ryan, adding that the sheer number of churches in New York means Tebow could tithe himself into bankruptcy if he's not careful. "In the past, he's managed to keep his God habit in check and focus on football, but in a city where a pew is never more than a minute away, we don't know if he'll be able to resist the temptation." Sources confirmed the Jets are making overtures to fellow Christian Kurt Warner to mentor Tebow, because the veteran once played in the city, and also because they do not have anybody who is good at quarterback.
