THe only thing a kid wouldn't like is that the pool is very deep (comparatively speaking) . There is a nice zero entry end, but after that, wandering around it's about 4-5' deep all over. It was too deep for my 5'5" Mom to feel comfortable wandering around without a floaty. I'm 5'9" and it was well up to my neck in many areas. The beach is PERFECT for kids with almost no rocks and great sandy entrances. They will also LOVE the animals everywhere. It's a beautiful resort!!!

Quetzel/Tucan

Hello!
We have stayed at Iberostar Quetzel/Tucan for many years. We are returning in November for a friends 40th birthday. It is are favorite resort in Playa. And I have a Time Share in Riviera Maya, and still prefer this resort. The hotel has 2 sides Quetzel and Tucan which is why I listed both. Usually you don't know what side you are on till you get there. Either side is fabulous. Try to ask for a room TOWARDS the "jungle" vs out towards the roads. If you have a Jr Suite on the ocean (which we are renting for the 1st time this year), you won't get so much jungle, but then you get the ocean. You will LOVE this place. The food is great, the service is awesome and the resort is beautiful. It is centrally located and going into PLaya is a must for shopping. The water and beach is unbelievably beautiful. There one bad thing is the early am "save a lounge" people. They tend to go to the pool area early in the am and "reserve" chairs (most resorts have this problem). Trouble is, they sometimes are chair hogs. The cabana's go very quickly so if you want one, early is the word. Usually there are plenty chairs on the beach tho.
Email me if you have any other questions. I am going for 10 days this year and can't wait.

[We were there 5 years ago and are going back in two weeks (Nov 24 to Dec 3). The beach is awesome, grounds have a very tropical setting, best we've ever stayed at. Last time we traveled there weren't too many kids, in fact, very minimal. We are taking 5 kids aging from 12-16 and not worried about what to do. Go to Akmul to swim with the turtles, GORGEOUS SCENERY THERE. Downtown 5th Avenue is awesome for shopping, change of food and people watching. Another fun place is either Xel-ha or X-caret which also enables you to swim with dolphins for about $100 per person. New things we're going to try this time is taking the ferry to Cozumel (for the heck of it and change of scenery) and then the Mayan Ruins tour which we didn't do last time (didn't think the kids would be interested). I'm also going to look into Zip Lining for the kids and maybe a ATV tour. Well, maybe we'll see you there! Have fun

I was hoping to surprise my fella by upgrading to an ocean view room when we go this September...

...I contacted the hotel, only to be told they sell their ocean view 'suites' through their own 'wholesaler' (he must have meant travel agent) but on arrival I could ask if there were any available or had been any cancellations, and the cost would be $85 a night!

Other companies sell them as well but yes, you can upgrade upon arrival IF there are any available. At $85/night, that's a steal.

This is a fun resort at the lower to mid- end of all-inclusives. I like the setup, food and shows. Wife loves that she can sit in the shade between the main pool and the beach. It is easy to find people at this resort. It has 350 rooms on each side. JCVDUDE on Youtube has many great videos on this and other properties. I suggest everybody watch them who is interested in this property. Hed is a very good cameraman so compare his videos of desired properties with his videos of properties you have already visited.

The kids at all resorts vary with time of year. Quetzel/Tucan has a nice kids program. I didn't notice how many kids where even theretill I went to we went to a show early and a kids show was ending.

It would have to be $85 more a night, which is still very reasonable.

For a couple of nights, or maybe just one week it might not seem bad....but for 14 nights....er...no

That's an extra $1190 on top of the original $4096, which sadly for me is just pushing the budget too far!

I know which rooms/blocks I like anyway so life's good!

I'll just keep doing the lottery!

I sure wished the beached looked like that. Unfortunately, the last 2 times we were there it was about 500 people in that area.
First time we thought it was great, second time good, third we wouldn't be coming back.
We like the smaller quieter resorts now.

We used to always go in September, but after a TS and a few near misses we changed it up to May. We are heading to Playa next month so hopefully the weather stays clear! September were our last 2 vists to IB and it was super crowded. With 700 rooms there will be a few people there The hotel we stay at now has 70...

With this in mind, it's hardly the place to choose if you want a 'quiet away from it all' type of holiday, but having said that, we've always found that if you wanted noise/hustle/bustle...it was there, but on the flip side we never had trouble finding peace and quiet too.

7th visit coming up soon...but I think it could be our last, as it's just starting to edge out of our budget!

Wow those pics of the beach at the Tucan/Quetzal are amazing and
very colourful! they are so sharp and almost sureal........and makes me
feel very sad that we are not going this year! we adore the place
and envy anybody that can afford to go there! like Beesknees said
here in the UK the prices are getting silly and out of reach of families
especially......we were there over 2 years ago now with our family
the babies were aged 3 and 5 and god love them they loved every minute
and even now the eldest child keeps talking about 'Mexico' which I am
glad that she can have happy memories.......since then there has been
another addition to the family now aged 5 months bless her!....
so hopefully they will all be back one day! .......and us two old codgers
if we win the lottery!! lol
