50th birthday!!

My husband just informed me he will pay for me to go away to celebrate my 50th on Sept 29th. He will not be with me as he does not like to travel that time of year and he has his moose license!! He has suggested Cuba where we have friends and Punta Cana where we have friends who travel yearly, but I am seriously considering Playa as I love it there and can think of no better place to turn the big 50. I will be by myself and can get a great deal at Adventure Mexican from Sept 28th until Oct 06. This includes their AI option and although I plan to eat out alot for an extra 200 for the 8 days this option would probably pay for itself in drinks only! Do you think this would be a fantastic way to celebrate a milstone in your life and will there be any peeps around to help me celebrate!
I have no problem travelling by myself and when we retire , in a few years, I will have to do so as I want to be away for 4 or 5 months a year and hubby much less. I am so torn about this as we are going to be back there next year but of all the places I have travelled this is my favorite!
Would you go by yourself to celebrate a milestone and if I do this will anyone be around to help me celebrate?
Thoughts please!!
Lori

Playa seems to be a great place to travel alone to!

Check out this forum to see if anyone else will be around then.

Maybe there is a girlfriend (or two, or five ) you could talk into going with you?

I'll be celebrating my 50th there too (Sept 23rd) as I couldn't think of a better place to be. I plan on a meal somewhere in PDC, then to watch a game of footie (Inter are playing at home), and then back to the hotel in time for the evening show! Can't wait!

Thanks Rissask,

I have been following your adventures on Isla Mujeres with interest as we spent 10 days there last spring and will be going back next year. Are you going to be doing another one of your wonderful trip reports?
I have travelled all over by myself and have no problem doing so. Most of my friends are afraid to travel to Mexico? and although I have done AI at most other Islands offered from Canada I would perfer to travel by myself!! The last vacation I took with a friend was less then excellent as I think AI can mean leave all you morals at home! Been there and done that!! I simply want to be able to celebrate my birthday on a beach with my toes in the sand. Of all the places we have travelled, Playa seems like the place. We had travelled to a few places before my husbands 50th and he had always wanted to go to Mexico although my heart was in Cuba. I suprised him with a trip to Mexico and we have been there every year since!!In 2010 we did boutique hotel for the first time as well as AI and loved Playa. I had back issues at that time and did not get to see much beyond the hotel. This past year we rented a condo for 11 nights, hung out at the Luna Blue and loved the whole Playa vibe. Next year we will be in Playa for 10 nights in a condo so it is obvious we love the area. I guess I am just worried that I will not meet any other people to spend some time with on vacation. I am perfectly content by myself most times but would love to have the option to meet some other people to help me celebrate the big 50!!!

I would travel there alone too, no problem....it's so easy to meet and chat with people, at least I find it easy, you sound like you do too. I would do it in a heartbeat, especially to PDC.

I actually just started my Isla trip report tonight, funny you posted that! Thanks! We loved it there. It would also be a good choice for a solo trip, I think. SO friendly there.

We actually met a woman who was at a restaurant we were at one evening, she asked us to take her photo before she left. She seemed to be having a nice enough time, although that restaurant was a bit too dark and intimate or something to be on your own, I thought at the time...but she volunteered that she came there for the great food and the ambiance, so there you go!

Playa is the perfect place for this type of celebration! Although you may have to seek out a little to meet others, I've never traveled somewhere where that is easier. As already suggested, check out the peeps thread to see who else might be there at the same time- and maybe start your own thread there. It's fun to chat with others online before meeting up at one of the common meeting places for a fun night - Bad Boys, Luna Blue, etc. I'll bet there will be no shortage of people willing to help you party on the 29th. Wish I could be there!

Thanks everyone and Maggie, love your trip reports!! I am still deciding what to do but am leaning towards going by myself as all my friends would need more notice to plan a trip, especially from here. This summer has been dismal with only 7 days of sun since May. My furnace actually cut in this week! We will be in Playa next May but I don"t think I can wait that long to have some heat. I will let everyone know when I book as I really would like some company for my birthday. Other then that I am quite content to spend some down time reading and enjoying the solitude.
You only turn 50 once and should get to spend it whatever way you wish!!

Booked flights for September 28th until October 07 Have even found a friend who has never been to Playa before and she will be joining me. Now just have to find a place to stay. We are seriously considering the AI option at Adventure Mexicana as it is reasonable enough to still eat at all my favorite places.
So excited to get this bonus trip and hopfully I will see some of you folks at Bad Boys on September 29th which is the day of my 50th!!

Booked for Aventura Mexicana for Sept 28th until Oct 07. I was last in Playa when Jay Morten was playing at the Luna Blue in May. Met many peeps and hope to meet more in Sept. A bit shy so I never identified myself to any of these people but hopefully you will know I look familar.

Andy,
It was funny but we saw you everywhere! I even approached you at Carboncitas and commented that you must think we were following you! We had seen with you at PG,S and Luna Blue. Never met Al but would have loved to do so. He owes this newfie a beer! Also met Snappysammy although I doubt he remembers. It was so great to see and meet peeps from the forum. Sue and Rick were also at Luna Blue whenever we were there and I hope to meet them again this trip.
I am looking forward to Bad Boys on the 29th and hope to see some of you there to help me celebrate what everyone tells me is the big one.

Thanks
Lori
