Question Smoothie recipes?

I've inherited a Vitamix and have started making lots of smoothies. Some of the recipes that come with the mixer are kinda gross. I can't get used to the idea of drinking whole pulp ground up with my fruits and veggies (many of the recipes are a bit thick), but I've found some great ideas online about juicing with a Vitamix by straining it through a sieve or nut milk bag. Just fruit as a smoothie is good whole in the mixer, though.

Anyone have any good recipes or combinations that you love? I'd like to venture into the "green" smoothie territory, but they seem like they might taste really bad.

Thanks for any ideas!

I usually make fruit smoothies.

1 banana or fruit of choice.Rasberries are tasty too.
1 5 oz cup strawberry/banana yogurt or any flavor
2-3 ice cubes
1 cup of OJ or guava juice.

Blend well until thick.
Enjoy

I make my favorite one with mango, strawberry (more mango than strawberry) and orange juice.

My favorite green smoothie is probably the easiest. Two big handfuls of spinach and two bananas, start with a full cup of water and add more to get to consistency you like. (If you like it cold, use ice instead of water.)

All you taste is the banana.

I've been drinking this for breakfast since February. Gets me to lunch and I feel like I've made a good dent in my fruit/veg daily requirement.

1cup juice (V8 fusion or "Just Fruit" from Knudsen.
1Tablespoon Green/Berry food by New Chapter
1heaping scoop protein powder (Whole Foods 365 Vanilla is good)
Blend
Add:
1 packet frozen unsweetened Acai
1cup fruit (bananas, peach, mango, peach)
Blend. Drink with straw. Depending n your combo, color can be grey, but it all tastes good and I think it's pretty healthy.

We got a 'Ninja System' blender a few months back and we've gone to town on the smoothies. We keep a variety of frozen berries on hand as well as OJ, apple juice and plain yogurt. It's also a great use for almost all over ripe fresh fruit. Frozen brown bananas are great!

My kids really like this one I showed them:

Ice, yogurt, fresh or frozen strawberries, fresh (or over-ripe, frozen) bananas, OJ, Agave Nectar (or honey) to sweeten to taste.

My kids like playing around with their own concoctions that they think up. And what's not to love? Healthy food that teens love, foster creativity and basic cooking skills, and something the whole family actually likes doing together.

Happy blending to you!

Oh... one more discovery...

A few days ago I need tomato juice for a recipe. Didn't have any so a grabbed a 28oz can of San Marzano tomatoes, picked them out of the packing sauce, tossed them in the blender with a giant 1.5 lb heirloom tomato. Blended until smooth and strained out skin and seeds. Ended up with the freshest, tastiest tomato juice I've ever had.

Thanks for the great ideas, guys! Keep em coming.

This morning I blended: about a cup of fresh fruit which I stick in the freezer the night before (strawberries, blueberries, and nectarine); 2 TBLS of ground flax, 2 TBLS of aloe vera gel (has no flavor) and 2 TBLS of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Tossed a few chunks of fresh watermelon on top.

The vinegar makes it a little "zippy," but I actually like the taste. This is one of my brother's recipes---he is on a huge health kick.

Amy, I'm going to try your green drink later in the week.

Nice! I"m going to try some tomato/basil soup in the Vitamix. This time of year with fresh garden tomatoes everywhere is my favorite.

Mel, like Amy said, throw in a few handfuls of spinach with some bananas and some strawberries, you won't even taste it. I cut cantaloupe into chunks and freeze it, it doesn't have a lot of taste in a smoothie but adds a good iciness to it.
