Short Story :
We started off camping at the Aspenglen Campground arriving Sat about 11am,We sat up camp and just kinda explored the surroundings on foot. Sun -We got an early start and drove the Old Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitor Center the down the west side of the park to Grand Lake about a 40 mile drive 1 way..Along here is where we spotted the cow moose and her fawn.. Then we drove back over the Fall River Road to the Highest Continous Road in America, Then we stopped in Estes Park for dinner at a place called TULUM's .. Then I got some shut eye for a couple of hrs and on Mon-Labor day at 1:20 am I struck off on the hike/climb of my life ... To summit Longs Peak via the Keyhole Rt 14,255' and 7.5 miles 1 way- Elevation gain on the trail is about 5,100'... I arrived on the Summit at about 11:15am and then arrived back at the trailhead about 6pm... A very daunting adventure..But one to add to my bucket list..The next day we moved to Moriane Park for the last 4 days .. after setting the camper and tent we headed to Ft Collins and toured the Budweiser plant , the next day was just a hang out day ... Then on Thursday we went to Denver and toured the Denver Mint and stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe and then back to camp, and then again Friday it was just a little more hiking and sightseeing the Bear lake area and Alberta Falls.. Then we made the long journey home.... It was a Fantastic Family Vacation... FWIW... The back side of Longs Peak is the picture on the back of Colo Quarter..how cool is that.. I have a picture from the exact spot they used .. Last edited by D33RHUNT3R; 01-20-2012 at 01:02 PM.. |
