We drove it. The roads are fine, narrow and twisted, but there are eight million topes and every mile or so you will come across a family with a cord pulled across the road, trying to sell something or just asking for money. After awhile you stop slowing down...they know to drop the line and let you by. It may be better by bus!!! It took us 4 hours to go from Palenque to San Cris.

This year only found the same girl at the same spot, maybe one kilometer after the textile vendors. From San Cristobal to Ocosingo I didn't find any rope-traps. I have never drove the Ocosingo Palenque part, could it be the reason? My time was 3 hours, but was driving slowly and did a stop at Oxchuc for one hour, so the real time was 2 hours to Ocosingo. Next time you are in the area, don't miss Tonina. |
