What you should so If you have not is go to Start/Run/ then type MSCONFIG/ then select....Selective startup and see how many things have a checkmark next to them......You actually only need three or four checked.....The less programs you have starting up the faster your computer will be......The services and I think it is called processes in XP lets you know what is running in the background.....You need to know what you need running to allow the computer to run all the other stuff you can stop....There are apllications you can download that will tell you what each one is and if you need it running......If you dont it will stop it and keep it from running next time you boot.....
I gave my grandmother my first PC...Dell XPST600 a whopping 600 MHz.....You can make a 600 mhz processor run faster then a 1 ghz processor by turning off all the crap that is running in the background as long as the 1 ghz processor has the crap running......
Do you know what you have running in the start up?
