Yes you will definitely need your passport. Scotia Bank would not even accept my U.S. Passport Card and I have an account there. And possibly you might need to have an account at the bank that you are using to do exchanges.

Best bet is not to go to a teller, use the ATM at a Bank, not an ATM on the street.

Scotia Bank on 10th and also on 5th across from bus station, have Interac agreements with most major banks in All Americas.

You will get the current rate from your own Bank.

If you have Cash .... deposit it into your account at home before you go.

Withdraw from the ATM as needed.

I have traveled the world , not just PDC , and I recommend this for both economic and safety concerns.

I'm not sure I understand why going out of the way for an extra 1-3 cents per dollar while on vacation is so popular... What am I missing?

If it was on 1 or 2 cents on the dollar, not much. But based on the earlier comment of 14.07 pesos/$ compared to my banks 12.74 pesos/$, if a vacation costs me $2000.00 I'd be saving 9 cents on the dollar, or $200.00. To me, a 10% savings isn't something to sneeze at.

lucy, you will not get the same rate from the tellers
the rate in the bamk will be slightly better than the street exchange rate
but not nearly as good as the machine

Hey Rob,

Moncton N.B. , right now we are having a bit of a Gale, storm surge.

Nothing a good gassed up generator and a stock of vino tinto won't take care of.

We are looking at Feb for a couple weeks.... you?

Our "Guy" says that we should buy as many pesos as we can this month and next. He expects the exchange rates for USD to become much less favorable in the near future.

Just passing on information. He has a pretty good track record so far.

Xe.com is showing 13.54 this morning, I got 13.35 on November 7, my last transaction. We will probably get 5,000 pesos right before we leave town to have for the trip next year.
