A surprise at the new shelter site.
On a visit to the building site for the new shelter, the workers told us they had something they wanted us to see. They took us to the far side of the property through the brush that had yet to be cleared, and hidden away as carefully as she could be, was Mama dog, Parche, and her 7 newborns, Kasey, Billy, Brady, Maxi, Mini, Sassy, and Tessy. Clearly, PAR has it's first clients! Finding a spot for Parche and her family is going to be an extreme challenge for us, and we hope to find a person who can foster them. We simply could not turn our backs on this dog and her pups.
Parche has a very sweet and calm temperament. We were worried about trying to move a Mama with her brand new puppies, but she took it all in stride. First a meal and a nice drink for Mama dog, then we bundled the babies into the food bowl, and Parche followed us out of the brush and into the car. Parche and her pups were taken to the Vet right away. Apart from an issue with worms, and a small bacterial infection on her skin for Parche, and some fleas that need to be treated, all is well with Mama and babies. Our new neighbors at the shelter site verified that Parche is a street dog, and were very happy to see her going to rescue. The neighbors on both sides of the new shelter are dog lovers, and happy to see a shelter being built. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Puppy House
The Puppy House in Playa del Carmen is located in a commercial and residential mixed neighborhood, and holds a permit from the municipality to shelter dogs. We always try to be respectful of our neighbors and keep the noise down as much as possible. However, we have now had three noise complaints from neighbors, and the municipality is telling us we must remove the dogs, or they will remove them for us. Our new shelter is 8-10 weeks away from completion, so the timing is bad. We have no options, we are going to have to move all of the dogs to the ranch in Akumal temporarily. We will have someone at the ranch with the dogs on a daily basis, working to keep them safe and well during the completion of the build out of the new shelter. We hope to have all the dogs safely in the new shelter within 8 to 10 weeks.
Now more than ever we need help with adoptions and fostering. We will do all that we can to keep the dogs safe in Akumal, but it is not the ideal spot for them. Do you have room in your heart and your home to take one of our dogs for adoption or foster. They are all lovely dogs that will make a loving pet. Please help us to help these dogs. |
