I bet there are a lot of rich protesters at OWS. Who else could afford to take that many days off work?
There will always be a segment of the population that is totally clueless...they really don't know why they are there or the intricacies of the problems they are protesting. Not necessarily saying that's the case here, but I wonder. I'm leery of this sort of thing, and in a way it reminds me of some of the protestors during Nam who wanted us out and then spit on our people as they finally returned. Of course you probably aren't old enough to remember it that well...

I really don't have a good vibe about ows.

Someone wrote an entire book about that...

Quote:
''Most Vietnam veterans were spat on when we came back," he said. That's not true. A 1971 Harris poll conducted for the Veterans Administration found over 90 percent of Vietnam veterans reporting a friendly homecoming. Far from spitting on veterans, the antiwar movement welcomed them into its ranks and thousands of veterans joined the opposition to the war.

The persistence of spat-upon Vietnam veteran stories suggests that they continue to fill a need in American culture. The image of spat-upon veterans is the icon through which many people remember the loss of the war, the centerpiece of a betrayal narrative that understands the war to have been lost because of treason on the home front.

FWIW, I'm not saying it didn't happen. I just remembered that a sociologist had written a book about the phenomenon.

Yep, I think one must be careful not to take a very small percentage of extremist activity in a large group of people and extrapolate it to somehow reflect the larger group's general behavior or attitude. It would be like somehow relating a seriously demented, criminal rapist to the entire group of OWS protesters...really quite ridiculous.

Finally someone that puts the Occupy Wall Street message in words we can understand. And in one minute and twenty three seconds.

I think I was very careful to qualify that post with the word "some". But marching bands and open arms? Bullshit. But that's not the point...the point is there are always people who don't know what the F they are even protesting about. They just want to go out there and scream. Their anger is misdirected and aimed at any target they can get it to stick to. The ows movement has a serious problem with respect to PR in my opinion. It's attracting a lot of idiots, and the fact that some of them live in mansions and others are not making room at the table for the down and outs and it begins to look like a bad joke and nowhere near representative of the 99.

Don't even worry about the protestors....take them and their individual stories out of the equation...what about the actual protest itself? Why is it happening, really? At the root of it? Dissatisfaction with the status quo, unhappiness with the high unemployment and the increased cost of living in some categories (like food) and houses that are worth less than what you owe, etc. USA has had it good for a far longer time than really was feasible.

It's adjustment pains to a new, less affluent way of life, not only being (justly) pissed off about the evil capitalist pigs.

Rick spoiled brat....why do you call them that? Because they choose to spend their spare time standing up for a cause they see as worthy? I took my kids to the Occupy movement here, they marched, they have been down a few times since....they aren't poor. But rich spoiled brats because they support the movement?

That's exactly how I was going to respond, comparing "rich spoiled white kids" who marched alongside blacks during the civil rights protests.

what worries me in why more people are not asking "who is behind this movement?" Has everybody here really questioned that? And the Timing..why now?..why not 3 years ago when wall street was bailed out?

Look deeply and you will see this was planned a while back by the defunct Acorn who has branched off into other "socialist" groups. The head socialists have been busy planning for a few years for this..you know, some of Obama's friends. Some are getting paid to protest..that's Obama job creation.

Dig around and find out for yourself. stop watching NBC and MSNBC

nobody ever got a job from a poor person.

Unless you call it a "poll"?
