We had a party. People started arriving around, well about the time they got there

We have some photos. I hope some of the other folks have some photos too, and that they post them. But before the photos; we had a wonderful time in Playa, and the folks at this party had a lot to do with that over the week we were there.

Rick and Sue took us to Xpu Ha on my birthday. Sue picked the pizza place for my birthday dinner. Barry, Phyllis and Heather joined Rick and Sue and Kathy and I at Romeo's for that dinner. Erik was the bluespicker and Jan was great fun, at Mom's Hotel, at Bad Boys and at this evening's event. People brought beer and wine and we had some rum and tequila there, along with diet Coke and Sprite for those who didn't want to drink booze all night

On to the photos

Here are Rick, Phyllis and Barry.

Somebody's arm, Phyllis, Kathy, Heather and someone else's arm

Heather, Jan and Bruce

Erik, Sue, Danny and part of Rick

Jan and some tall dude

Four people previously named

And the lovely Heather to wrap up the post.

Doesn't she look wonderful?

She is more wonderful than she looks

Vacation time

Well, we've been back since the 12th, tans are fading.

Today I got my pay notification. I accrue 16.67 hour of vacation time a month. After they added in my hours for November and deducted all the hours associated with our recent trip, I had a balance of 12 hours

Good planning, I say.

I need to go look at photos. I have done the southern leg, so the part I have not done is the 24 hours in Puerto Morelos and the flight home.

We had been to Puerto Morelos before, in 2003. We stopped on the way to the airport and bought some books from Alma Libre, but we had not spent the night. We stayed at the Ojo de Agua hotel, ate there and at the Habanero Cantina, walked around town, lost and then found my wallet and had a good old time. Have quite a few photos from there.

After we finish that, I will sneak in some photos from time to time from other parts of the trip.

Off to iPhoto now to gather up some photos from the Puerto Morelos trip.

This was the best trip ever and I miss all of you lovely folks that we spent time with.

I miss you too, Susie. We have missed you on our last two trips and that really saddens us

You are a little bit smitten with Heather. It's okay. I totally understand.

On our last day in Mahahual, we got away after breakfast and drove to Tulum, where we stopped and got a sandwich and some water to share on the way north. It looked like we would arrive at Puerto Morelos around 2:00 and wanted something to hold us until arrival.

We still needed to buy tequila, and did not want to do the duty free, load it in our suitcase in Houston dance, so we stopped at a Chedraui in Playa, the one of the beach side of 307, to look for tequila. They had Herradura Anejo, so we bought two bottles of that, pulled into the McDonalds for a soda.

When we arrived in Puerto Morelos, we had no reservations but we wanted to find the Ojo de Agua hotel, and we did without too much trouble, by turning left at the square and paying attention. We got a nice room for 950 pesos - one with a sitting area and kitchenette on the ground floor. They had parking for guests. Didn't take any photos of the room, but have some of the grounds and the Ojo de Agua restaurant, independent ownership from the hotel, but hotel guests get a discount there.

Here I am at the restaurant

This is in the courtyard of the hotel

So is this

Those are the only ones of the hotel grounds. We enjoyed our stay

Next post, photos from around town and the story of a lost and found wallet

This is the first time we have spent more than 30 minutes in Puerto Morelos, and we enjoyed it.
Here are some photos taken around town

Kathy likes pink houses

A pier

The restaurant with the cement pelicans

A nice paint job

and a plant that caught Kathy's eye. Does anyone know what it is?

The lost and found wallet

Our flight home was scheduled to leave at 4:15 or so on November 12. We woke up, ate breakfast, made sure we were all packed and went for a walk, a long walk. Left the hotel, turned left, turned left again and walked down to the square. Went another block away from the beach and turned right. Walked a bunch of blocks and then went another block from the beach and walked back in the direction of the square.

Stopped at a tienda along the way and got a couple of mineral waters. Walked a bunch more. Got back to the hotel at about 11:30 am, ahead of the noon check-out. No wallet. No wallet anywhere. We still have the passports, so we can fly home, but my wallet with about 4,000 pesos and credit cards and my license was missing.

While Kathy stays at the hotel, I backtrack, first telling the hotel desk person that we may not make the noon check-out. I head back towards the tienda, keeping an eye out on the ground, but the tienda was the only place I had the wallet out of my pocket, so near there was the best bet at finding it.

The woman at the tienda, at least in her 50's, had found the wallet on the sidewalk in front of her store. I gave her a million thank yous, bought another 10 peso bottle of mineral water, paid with a 50 peso bill and refused the offered change. She insisted I take the change, but I told her it was hers, a small symbol of my gratitude.

Back to the hotel, we checked out, drove to the EasyWay office in Cancun. They gave us a ride to the airport.

Kathy was relieved, and later, in Houston, with an impish smile on her face asked me if I still had my wallet with me.

For years I have been seeing people post photos they took with a camera held out at arm's length.
Some of those look kinda goofy. So, on the plane in Cancun I took some.
They look goofy. Here they are

So the trip is pretty much over, but not the report.

I am going to go back through photos and post occasional shots. Hopefully it will not be too repetitive, but I have hundreds of them
