China 'hypnotized' to companies in Mexico The country is about to overtake Germany as the third destination of Mexican exports By: Shaila Rosagel MEXICO CITY (Manufacturing) - Dragon Mart, Cancun, Quintana Roo seeks position as a logistics platform to export goods from China to the United States and Latin America, yet still no progress since its announcement in March this year . The project will house 2,500 manufacturing companies and launched in March the state government of Quintana Roo, is without beginning , says Jimmy Li, Secretary General of the Confederation of Chinese Associations in Mexico (Cachimex). In March it was announced that by November 2012, the complex would be in operation. But Jimmy Li said that there is an agreement signed between the state government and Chinese entrepreneurs . "You are only talking, not a paper or a leaf. In China Expo Mexico, each year we make a report of work, but about this nothing, nothing ... maybe if successful, but right now nothing is going to happen, "he said. The Secretary General said Cachimex recently made a visit to Cancun and Quintana Roo officials showed some land located 10 minutes from the airport. Jimmy Li said that the announcement of the construction of Drangon Mart was following the visit of two delegations of Chinese who came to see what could be done on site. "But they're probing, are seeing what can be done, there are no facts, words, nothing more," he said. Finalized, said Cachimex member, China and Mexico would mutually benefit after the arrival of high-tech companies. Arturo Caballero Rodríguez, Secretary for Economic Development of Quintana Roo, said in an interview, that just defines the land where they eventually start construction. Once started, it could take two years. "We assume that this could take two years , regardless of technological advances could change sometime, but I hope that in a couple of years we will have more than 5.000 work places for that region of Mexicans and people of China, "he said. Still no Chinese company names confirmed for the project, explained the official. And he announced that Dragon Mart - Cancun offers possibilities for exploiting the potential of the region in renewable energy. Chinese entrepreneurs may be interested in installing wind turbines . "With the cooperation we have with the government of China, the potential to develop renewable energy can grow," he added. The expectations are ambitious, they will of Quintana Roo, the second outlet for Chinese products in the world after Dubai, due to the geographical position of this state and its proximity to downtown, South America and the Atlantic coast of the United States, said. According to what was released, the project will involve an investment of $ 150 million starting in the first stage and is installed on an area of 84 hectares in Puerto Morelos. Will house Chinese companies agribusiness, advanced technology and even tidal power generation and wind power , explained the Secretary for Economic Development of Quintana Roo. "This platform communication, technology, appliances and renewable energy , we take in the particular case of Cancun, the possibility offered by the tide and wind, "he said. In March, said it will generate 5.000 direct jobs, of which half will be for Chinese and one for Mexicans. Communication will also be 2, 500 indirect jobs more.

Hey, whatever happened to those border factories along the Rio Grande? (You know, the ones whose "whoosh" was the sound of our US manufacturing jobs leaving for Mexcio?) Well, they've moved right along to China, leaving Mexico's cheap labor force far behind (you've been following the Apple-China tug of war about whether the FoxBot - or whatever they're called - worker drones should get a penny-a-year raise and a full 10 minute lunch break for every 16 hours worked? It's hard to compete with that kind of "dedication to the work-ethic". Now those wily Chinese have offered to open a giant shopping mall in sleepy Puerto Morelos to sell the products of those lost jobs back to the poor Mexicans who lost the jobs in the first place - how very clever!). No doubt the govenment of Quintana Roo is somewhat overly-dazzled by the prospect of a giant investment by the current owner of most of the world's money, but have they given any real thought to what happens when you let somebody-you-don't-know-anything-about remodel your house? ("My, what a pretty red dragon! Where should we put it? Reminds me of that nice wooden horse the Joneses bought last year. How are the Joneses, anyhow? - we haven't heard from them for a while - have we?") (gurgle, gurgle) |

Foreign Food
How about mu shu pork - that comes about as close to eating a taco with chopsticks as I can think of - but if those thin little Chinese tortillas can hold up to it, they make great finger food too (like a taco), so you might be able to 86 those troublesome (for me, anyway) chopsticks.
On a similar note, I've noticed Europeans eating a hamburger with a knife and fork (but not yet with chopsticks) - open the hamburger, lay the top bun and condiments (pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) aside, then work each piece over with the old knife and fork like it was real food. It does seem like one of those "unclear on the concept" moments (wasn't the Earl of Sandwich at least peripherally European?) when I have to czech myself from barging in with unsolicited culinary advice (Don't talk with food in your mouth! Chew with your mouth closed! - Hey, watch out with that knife and fork - I was only trying to "help"! It's a hamburger, for God's sake!). Bon appetite! |

Sandwiches probably came from the necessity of filling up the diners at a price they were willing to pay. I believe originally the concept became popular in Holland. Of course the Earl of Sandwich was English. LOL. Your culinary advice is sound and give it freely to people in restaurants. The rest of us really appreciate it. Ditto tacos (but if they're messy, falling apart, cream on top, etc., I use a fork too - since I've never yet found peas in a taco, or a hamburger, either, for that matter, no need to use a knife). |

Yahoo news had this blurb up and flying today about Dragon Mart - not sure it actually says anything new (or anything at all, actually, given Yahoo news' penchant for not actually saying anything at all while using as many words as possible, which often makes it hard to tell the news from the filler). What it appears to say is that construction will begin next month - but we know better than that (don't we?)
Giant Chinese complex raises eyebrows in Mexico - Yahoo! News UK Looks like the "current" version of a continuing saga (to be continued). By the way, does the supertrain stop at the Dragon Mart site? Last edited by beam-eye; 01-09-2013 at 08:50 PM.. |
