The greatest increase in environmental activism in the USA is coming from evangelical Christians. They are starting to take seriously biblical injunctions to be good stewards of the natural world. They are doing grass roots things, working in recycling programs, clean-ups of natural areas - and these new imperatives they are finding are entering into their political decision-making.
Makes it kind of tough on the rape-and-plunder-the-environment posture of many political candidates.
