Up the North Shore & Into the Bush, the Guys Go Fishing
I’m thinking of doing a trip report about our fish trip. We are fishing for Lake Trout, White Fish and with luck, Walleyes. In the fall the Trout come up out of 100 or so feet of water and can be caught in 3 to 15 feet on light tackle. Lots of fun!! John , “ The Big Swede from Iowa” has even caught them on a fly rod. If anyone is interested please let me know. I have been doing this trip almost every year for many years, my first to the Bell Lake Cabin, 40 some air miles NNE of Ignace Ontario was in 1962. Back then we took the train out of Thunder Bay and then went by freighter canoe 15 or so miles over a portage and the trip took a whole day and more sometimes. The train is long gone and now we get there by float plane. The cabin is one of 6 that the Ouisconsin Club has in the area that is, for the most part is part of the English River System. My dad was a charter member of the club based in Rice Lake. WI , but all our cabins are in Ontario. It was started in the early 50’s. For us it is about a 900 mile drive. One of the great parts of the trip is the drive up and back the scenic drive along north shore of Lake Superior. We always spend a night in Grand Marais, MN which is one of my favorite places. The trip takes place the last week of September and the weather that time of year in Northwest Ontario can be good or bad and everywhere in between, 2 years ago we had 3 hours of sunshine over 6 days and it never got warmer than the low 50’s with lots of rain and some snow. This year was the warmest ever and no rain. And yes, of course I have food pictures. I’m going to put up some pictures and see what you think.

Great start. Beautiful pictures too. What a small world we live in.
I'm in MN, and the family "had" 2 acres on Lake Superior, 10 miles south of GM. A stone throw from the Cascade river. Just seeing your pic's bring back so many good memories. More, please.

yes, we are pretty chuffed about global warming here in Canada. ![]() Nice pics. Looks just like lakes up in the Canadian shield here in northern Saskatchewan.
