New Years In Playa

Hello,

Happy that I am finally able to post on here!

Our Family is coming to PDC on boxing day for a week and we are very excited! One place that we havent been yet!

We are staying at the Allegro Playacar, and will be looking to do some adventuring.

Xel-Ha or Xcaret? Which is better? we want to snorkel, swim with turtles swim in the Cenotes.

Are we better to book separate snorkel tours? I do want to go for more than 1 hour ;/

Ruins - Chichen Itza is too far for me, 3 hours away, how is Tulum?

Also, I have read some very mixed reviews on trip advisor about the resort we are staying at, and trust me I am very opened minded, not expecting the world here....Ive traveled a fair bit and have stayed in 2 1/2 star places that I thought were great, (keeping an open mind) but honestly, there are some brutal reviews on this place! I have never looked at any resorts on that website before, this is my first time, and I almost wish I hadnt!

Lastly, New Years and safety off the resort. I have a 20 yr old 2 16's and a 14 yr old, and I know they want to have fun. What areas are my concern, specially on New Years when the streets will be full?

PS I also want to hold a monkey if I can?

When does the baby turtle release happen?

Thanks everyone! Another BCer joins the PDC forum and happy to be part of!

For monkeys, I highly recommend checking out The Jungle Place.

The Jungle Place - Tours

Book early, as they only allow small groups of 6-8 people, a few times a week.

We went on our 1st trip to PDC. It was an experience that I'll never forget!!!

Definitely The Jungle Place for monkeys. It is not a touristy commercial venture as much as it is an educational experience by very passionate and well intended owners. And yes book in advance as the numbers are limited without exception for the protection of the animals.
Xel-Ha will likely suit your kids more. More activities.
Swimming with sea turtles is best done at Akumal. You can do a tour at the beach, but I always just swim out and swim with them on my own. I have my own gear but it can be easily rented there.
Tulum is about an hour south and the ruins are interesting and the setting is beautiful.
I cannot help you with 5th Ave on New Years as I am always before or after, but I am sure others can help.
As for your resort reviews I cannot help there either. I stay in Playacar, but in a villa. But some people really just like to complain and the unhappy people can definitely make it known, often more than the happy ones. Just go, get off the resort, and have a great time.....it is easy to do in Playa !

We have stayed at the Allegro three times, we enjoyed each stay. Is it the fanciest, no, but the prices usually can't be beat. We could always find food to enjoy at the buffets. The breakfasts were always good. We usually go into town almost every night. the shows were fun when we stayed. The staff was always friendly, grounds beautiful. Just go with an open mind and enjoy yourself! We will be down there from Dec 25-Jan 2 staying down the road from the Allegro, we should get together!

We're coming down with my husband and I, adult children 18, 27, and 30, plus the 30's girlfriend 28, and her child 6. We have condo just down the road from you. Just north of the Allgro.
