Well...we made it! From Hurricane Rina to 2 1/2 feet of snow falling on our small town in New Hampshire...It was touch and go whether we were ever going to get to Playa. This year we decided to take the leap and stay at a boutique hotel downtown called Adventura Mexicana. This is our 3rd trip and we have done the AI and then the Condos at Natz Ti Ha but this year we wanted to go CHEAP. After being delayed a couple days due to weather on both ends of our trip, we finally walk out the doors of the airport into the balmy warm air I had been dreamy of for a whole year. We wanted to try out the ADO this year but the bus had just left and we just wanted to get to our hotel. So we hopped onto a shuttle for 60 bucks and were on our way. I had my fingers crossed as we drove down 307 through torrrential downpours. As we pulled up to the outside, I had a sinking feeling that I had made a terrible mistake. I knew my husband would love me anyway but maybe we should have paid a little more to be out of the middle of town away from the distracting red lights of La Reina Roja with the slightly S and M themed manaquins staring down at us from the balconies above. Check In went smoothly and soon we were tromping up to the third floor and shown to the last room on a deserted floor on the only cloudy gray day in any of our visits to this beautiful area! Cue the ominous music. We flopped down on the bed, looked at each other and promptly fell asleep to the soothing rain against the roof, exhausted but grateful to be back in Playa and ready to explore more of our Playa "bucket list"....just as soon as we wake from this much needed nap.!!! I hope you like our pics from last years visit to Tulum as we sleep!

Day 1 post nap

Woke up a few hours later and decided to run down to La Pummerola for one of their delicious pizza's. Ironically, it was our first meal last year as well...maybe a trend? Very convienant that it was located steps from the hotel. As we walked over and waited for our food, I kept wondering if I really messed up this sacred week off together, after almost a year of no days off together and alot of overtime, by scheduling a vk a day after a hurricane had passed through and the forecast was for rain all week! After gorging ourselves on pizza and caesar salads, we meandered back to the hotel and got a couple of drinks at the bistro located in the courtyard of the hotel. Still exhausted and annoying my husband by asking repeatedly if he liked the hotel and was he glad to be here...we decided to turn in early and hope for the best in the morning. My husband is a very laid back guy who is just grateful he doesn't have to make the travel plans and excited to be away from our 6 month old tasmanian devil puppy for a week! so needless to say...my worrying was, as usual, for not. BTW, the bed was extremely comfortable and we were upgraded to a King deluxe room due to off season and had scored a 30% off special for the week. The room was very clean and spacious with tons of storage room for the luggage as well as a safe and a fridge! I hadn't ever realized that such a bargain could be had in Playa! Seems ever year we keep getting better at finding the deals. I have to say it is all thanks to the peeps on this forum and all the helpful advice over the last couple of years. Before bed we laughingly decided that this was going to be our foodie extravaganza vk and we would eat our way through playa and just totally relax, get tans, do whatever came to mind for excursions and just chill for a week. In the past, I had an plan of what and where to go but not this time. This week was all about chilling on the Playa vibe.

Attachments aren't the best way to add photos to the site. I would upload my photos into a photo storage site like photobucket, then copy the 'direct link' to the photo and upload to my posts using the 'photo' icon you see at the top of the text box when typing a post. This icon looks like the silhouette of mountains on a yellow background with the moon or sun above the mountains.

When you get to the place you want to put a photo, click on that icon, which will pull up window where you are to enter the address for the photo--that's where you paste the link to your photo from photobucket.

You don't have to use the "insert image" icon.
Just copy the [IMG] tag and paste it directly into the post.

When posting photos from other sites (such as Facebook), you will need to use the "insert image" icon.

Yea, that, too--but where would they copy that from? Would have to type it manually, no? If you use Bab's method, don't forget to put the [/IMG] tag at the end of the photo address.

Thanks, uploading to photobucket now! Heather, last year you recommended the "texmex" nachos" from Carboncitas, we finally tried them this year.....YUM!

Everything we did this year was from recommendations from this website from ADO, collectivos, hotel choice to the vast array of food choices we tried! To anyone who is researching Playa trips, listen to these people, they really know what they are talking about!!!!! We have thought about going to new destinations over the years but I think we are hooked, everytime we visit we discover something new to do. Whether it is hopping on a collectivo and cruising down to Akumal to snorkel with Sea turtles or finding the best gelato in Playa or getting up early to get a fresh taco from the stands by the ADO station, there is always something to try to expand your Playa experience.
