water shoes
So, we're going to be staying at Sandos Playacar, and the question for all you experienced travellers is--do you think we need water shoes? I'm trying to decide what to take as far as shoes go, and so far I'm thinking sandals to wear around the resort, and then barefoot on the beach and in the water... do you think water shoes would be useful? I'm having hard time finding cheap ones (not the right season)...
What do you wear around the pool and on the beach? Thanks! |

For years I went barefoot in the ocean and loved it... right until I stepped on an unfortunate stingray (who let me know about it). Not that I blame the stingray, I'd be pissed too if some guy my size stood on me! Now I wear the swim shoes just for the piece of mind.

![]() As well as what you say about points north. Although, last night, I did see some disturbing photos of the beach - four to five foot drops. |

One of our group stepped on a sting ray right in front of Playa Palms last year. None of us saw it, the doctor diagnosed the injury. It brought a grown man to his knees, and took the edge off the rest of the week. I have enjoyed that beach for years and never considered that as a possibilty. This year I am bringing water shoes.

We always bring them, can't remember if we bought them at home, or down there. Uncle B has sensitive feet (annoying!) if there are even pebbles on the beach. If you travel around you may come across rocky areas in the water, they can be mossy and slippery. Or occaisionally get a piece of sand in the area between the toe of flip-flops, causing a blister and great pain (not like a sting ray!)
They don't take up much room. Wear sandals around the pool! |
