Can you carry a beer on 5th Ave still?

I saw in Rob Mckays thread that ,no more walking around with beer on 5th Ave. I was in playa 2 years ago. I remember being at the bar across from beer bucket {cant rem name .,la rinata?} Anyway when I got ready to leave the waitress said I cant take beer from bar.

I never really thought about it. Just figured it was a bar policy. However that entire week while my wife was shopping on 5th.

I always bought a six pack of DosXX at the little shop on 5th and carried them in a bag ,and drank them as I walked around. Never had anyone tell me this was a problem.

New law ? Thanks Steve

You CAN carry alcoholic beverages on AV. 5.........just not "LEGALLY". Several signs around town in reference to the "new" law.

Usually a big sign on AV. 5 at calle 10.

Yes they've been enforcing the law for a little while. But doesn't seem like they've been enforcing it lately.

For the past 2 months, I've constantly been walking up & down 5th with a drink in a cup and haven't had a problem yet.

A beer can or bottle might be a different though?

Drag along a plastic cup and you should be fine.

I think it is a more uniform enforcement of an old law. But that is academic. You can carry your beer along the public streets in Playa, just as long as you don't open the bottle. If you really want to drink that six pack as you walk, make sure you are on the beach.

I had an open can on Thursday and Policia stopped me and said it is forbidden. He said I could stand there and finish it.

We met some people who owned a restaurant and they said put it in white styrofoam cup and no problem.

This is EXACTLY why I love Mexico. Because they let you stand there and finish your beer. They realize that it is not the end of civilization because you have a beer in the first place. And at the same time they inform you of the rules, they show that they are not ball busters over it.

Try having an open container in Boston. Even if you avoid handcuffs, you certainly won't be invited to finish you beer. It's a good thing we have no REAL crime in the states for the cops to worry about.

We saw that sign on the corner of Calle 12 & 1st Ave. Figured they put it up around the night clubs so we kind of ignored it.

Ignored the sign Just like speed limits, drinking in the car while driving, public intoxication, partial nudity What else , oh yeah, yellow curbs , no parking.
