Any suggestions from the 'in the know' crowd
Coming down for 4 short days in January with 3 high school buddies. Any suggestions on what not to miss, where not to go, and best bar for letting loose? BTW- we are all turning 50 this year, and haven't traveled together since we graduated HS in '79 and took a trip to Mazatlan. I trust we will be better behaved this time around.

![]() Are you staying in Playa? A/I or in a smaller hotel or a private house/condo? Do you like live music? If you do, check out Brent Parkin at Bad Boys on the beach on Fridays from 6.00 pm to about 8.30 or 9 pm. He's an incredible blues guitarist/singer from Winnipeg who comes down for the winter each year. Also, Bad Boys has a great house band, the Nasty Bastards, on Thursdays and Saturdays from (I think) 5 pm-9 pm. BadBoys is a great place to see a lot of expat locals and snowbirds hanging out, dancing, and having a great old time. |

By the then, it is possible that JJ's new WahWah Bar on the beach (2 st)will be open in which case the Nasty Bastards will be playing there instead...they are apparently lining up other bands also and I think this place has the potential to be great. Have you SEEN the size of the palapa going up?! HUGE! My 50 yo hubby loves to listen to the music at Fusion (6 St) also

Alright, good stuff so far, We will be there 1/6 thru 1/10 and are staying at the Riu Palace. Interesting...... I asked what not to miss, where not to go, and best bar to let loose. All the suggestions so far are for the best bar. I really, really, like this crowd!

You might enjoy the cave restaurant called Alux. It's a cave or cavern with a restaurant and bar in it, very impressive and so unusual. Then of course there's always Fifth Ave... Everyone needs to walk that gaunlet at least once. And surely you know about the beach.

i love going to Dirty Martini Bar. very laid back, great owners, great bar staff, and very fun place. they have drink specials on certain nights were it's 2x1 martinis, discounted mojitos, bloody marys, etc. i usually go to Playa several times a year, so i can remember the details....but haven't been since May and my memory is not so good. let me see if i can find the info.....
well, i happened to remember that i have a list in an excel file....lol!! 1st between 10th and 12th Tues 2x1 martinis, Wed $35 pesos mojitos, Thu ladies 1/2 price, every day 4-8 $20 pesos beers. Sundays are the bloody mary specials!! Last edited by angelhouston819; 12-09-2011 at 02:39 PM.. |

So you will be at an all inclusive right? Will you be doing most of your meals there or some in town also? If you're going to town some of my favorite places are: La Cueva Del Chango - best breakfast...love their chilaquiles rojos HC De Monterrey - Love their arrachera nacional El Fogon - love their charro beans and hubby loves their tacos al pastor El Bistro - at La Tortuga Hotel - Nice for your "fancier" type meal Carboncitos - I'm addicted to the salsa platter.... I can eat the pumpkin seed salsa all by myself. Also for another cool bar to hang out at try the Luna Blue Hotel - they have live music also a couple of times a week, but I don't know the schedule. Jorge the bartender is the best and his Sarita B Careful's are delish!! Also if you want to do any side trips, There is Tulum not too far away, and I would recommend stopping of at Ziggy's Beach Club in Tulum... They have a fantastic view and of course a full bar. Axumal is a great place to go snorkeling to see the turtles. La Buena Vida is a great place for lunch. Hope you have a wonderful time. Last edited by LucyE; 12-09-2011 at 06:06 PM.. |
