I am so enjoying your trip report, thanks! You mentioned the shell lamp shop, don't you just love his work? Every year I want to bring one home and 2012 is my year! I remember when he used to set up in the front overhang of a store on the south end of 5th, he's come a long way! He is so nice, we always go in, admire and talk with him!

Yeah, we bought a couple of lamps from him a few years back when he was set up in front of that store. Then it seemed like every time we'd walk by his new store it was closed. We found it open this time, and bought a bunch of nice night lights for Christmas presents mostly but also one for our new Mexican inspired bathroom.

I've been getting ready for a big family get together at my father's today, but when that's over I'll get back to this- and the big party that ensued after the ceremony!

Thanks, guys.
I can't believe it's been a month now since this amazing day. I keep pinching myself still to know that it really did happen. It's hard to describe just how we felt after pulling this off and experiencing it, and it being so much better than we could have even imagined. Euphoric, that's it. And so euphoric we partied, hard.

I'll continue the story tomorrow night, definitely.

And, then, we celebrated!!
We popped champagne and shared some toasts.

I noticed it was getting late and shooed John off to get his bar crawl going at Mom’s, and said we’d find him along the route. In a while, Steve left with Carlos and Delmy and said we’d see him at Manne’s soon.

Brian and (Mary’s) Paul had taken the trusty fishing line and strung up a bunch of empty Sol cans, tying them to the back of the bike.

The rest of us followed behind the clanking cans, whooping and hollering through Playacar, up the hill by the ferry dock and up 5th toward Calle 4.

Paul was much more relaxed on the return route, raising his champagne cup to the cheers of onlookers and shopkeepers along the way. “Honeymooners!” I shouted out…. one guy came running out of his shop and shook a finger at Paul… “Game Over!”

We booked a left on calle 4, crossed the construction on 10th and came to a stop at Manne’s Biergarten.

This was originally supposed to be John’s 3rd stop on the bar crawl, but when the ceremony took longer than expected he’d crossed off the stop at his hotel courtyard (Villa del Mar) and went straight to Mom’s to see who was there. John and Cheryl found Richard and Sue Silva, and then moved on to meet us at Manne’s.

The tequila was flowing that evening at Manne’s, and we were all feeling kind of exhilarated. Well, I know I was. I’m pretty sure Harris and Paul were too. I’m pretty sure we were all getting a little drunk.

Some people ate, some had already moved on to the next spot, Carboncitos, to eat. We took so long at Manne’s that we kind of messed up Ranger’s bar crawl, but we did eventually crawl to Carboncitos and where they set up a long table for us on the street.

And one of the coolest things of this night was that some of the passersby who had happened upon the wedding ceremony that afternoon sought us out and hung out with us for the rest of the night.

A few other friends stopped by… Tonya and Harold…

and also Jim (jimontheriver) and Donna.

I know we ate something at Carboncitos. It got really chilly, too.

I know that we were there for a long time and that eventually some people went off toward Bad Boys and then others wandered down to the Dirty Martini for nightcaps. We didn’t do that, though. Luckily Brian had the sense to grab a cab and whisk me off to bed. It had been a long day, and tomorrow was our last day in Playa before we headed south.

I was drinking Havana Club & coke, but managed to have several shots from Manne's tequila gas pump!

Really wonderful. Thanks for reading!

I've had a long day today. My 84 year old father had an aortic valve replacement at Beth Israel in Boston and we drove in at 5 a.m. Thankfully everything went well- now we just watch and see how he recovers.

I'm going to relax and write for awhile and may post something if I don't fall asleep first... but in the meantime here's a few more random pics I like from that night.

These wedding posts could serve as foreplay for some of us old married folk.

Thank you

Love it, love it, love it!! Congrats to the lovely couple and a job well done by the wedding planner(s) This trip report made my day and I made it last for hours! I am now going to have a shot of tequila and will be looking for an Alux everywhere, or blaming one for something. This trip report ROCKS!
