Thanks guys!
My body fluids are still out of whack, but I'm feeling pretty darn good, considering. I can walk normally and the hamstrings are just a little stiff, the feet are a bit sore and my left knee has a little twinge, but I've been icing twice a day. Overall, I'm pretty close to "normal." I still can't drink enough water, it seems, and I get really wicked cravings for salty stuff. Hopefully I balance out in the next day or so. Another full day of rest today. My appetite finally returned in full last night. I inhaled an order of pad thai from Big Bowl plus a full order of potstickers by myself. |

PG - How did you feel during the race? I know you said you killed the swim & the bike and not so much the run. Any aches & pains during the race? I know your knee is angry at you. It's cause your old.

And on the bike I felt like a rock star. It's the fastest pace I've ever propelled myself on a 40+ mile ride, and it was 56 miles without a draft .But the run...eesh. By the halfway point I was hurting. Overheating and hurting. I definitely spent myself on the bike, but it was worth it. It's kind of fun to say that I went TOO fast on the bike

Very cool! I haven't done a tri at all this year. this whole moving to another country bit has thrown a crimp in my training/competition this year.
![]() I remember the feeling on the bike when I knew I was riding perfectly - just cooking my legs and that thought of (gee, I wonder how the run will feel) and then doing the run and thinking (gee, maybe I shouldn't have pushed so hard on the bike). Now, keep in mind that those distances were MUCH shorter than 56 miles. I can't imagine running after 56 miles on the bike. I can't imagine doing much of anything after 56 miles on the bike.

I'm undecided on doing another one at this point, but leaning towards doing this race at least one more time. It was a really nice course all around, local and inexpensive for a 70.3. But, I want to rest up first and try a month or two of training again to see how I feel about giving it another go. I jumped into marathon running and I regret it. I don't want to do the same with Ironman. |

8:27/mile 296 for the year driving to vegas tonight. hopefully i can get some runs in. it's only going to be 106. when i lived there, 107 was the breaking point. anything over 107 it started to get real miserable. |

![]() Nope. Not for me. Call me what you will, but I have a definite upper and lower "will not run" limit. I'm certain there's a gym somewhere in Vegas, jevans- go for the treadmill, just this once

I've gained 7 pounds since the night before my 70.3 on Sunday.
That's even outside the normal margin of error I give my scale at home. I think my body went into panic mode and has stored everything since race day. Going to do a light bike trainer session in the morning and attempt an easy run over lunch tomorrow to test out the knee. I haven't felt any pain or soreness since race day but I've completely avoided impact work on it all week and have iced religiously. |

7 lbs, PG?? That's over a lb a day- how much are you eating, boy?? Glad you're feeling good post race! Still can't wait to read the full report!
![]() And just to add my dos pesos to the running thread (finally!)- I'm going to give a little description of my new running lifestyle for any lurkers out there that may be interested (or any of you sickos that this has zero relevance for): Running for 2- my story of attempting to stay in shape while knocked up I had a clue something was up when my short training run was off by more than a minute per mile. I was further convinced that something was definitely up when I almost vomited all over myself repeatedly on my last long run. Yup- I was pregnant. While I knew it was a possibility, I didn't really think it would happen so quickly Turns out if you stop using protection and have a bunch of sex, you can get pregnant. Who knew? So you all know I walked my half- my doctor said it would be too risky to run given that it was my first one. That marked the end of my running career (save one sad attempt at running that failed miserably) for the next 2.5 months. I've just recently gotten back on that horse after a not-so-hot first trimester. So- running for 2. It's awesome. And sometimes awful. It really depends on the day. Prevailing wisdom from my doctor, midwives, yoga instructor, and a personal trainer friend is that a good rule of thumb is to make sure you can carry on a conversation while running. This may mean dropping your pace significantly. That's not really an option for me ![]() Also, since I'm alone on the trail- I have to carry on a conversation with either Zoe, or the bean. I frequently talk to one about the other. "Now you know it's not ok to pull Zoe's hair or poke her in the eye. She doesn't like that." "You're going to have to stop rolling in so much poop- I'm not going to have you getting poop all over our child". And so on. I really hope nobody is listening![]() Sometimes I have to walk up the steepest hills and even that leaves me quite winded. Sometimes I feel just great, like there's nothing different about my body. I'm sticking to 3 miles/run, and trying to run at least 3 times/week. I know I'm going to have to adjust to changing hormones and obviously my changing body, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to keep running until close to the end of my pregnancy. I've also started prenatal yoga, which rocks (and is free!). I love the instructor. I'm still lifting weights, but I had to drop the weight significantly, which was frustrating. Who knew it was so hard on your body to create another human life? Anyways, if it doesn't bore you all to tears, I'll give little descriptions of my good and bad runs from time to time. I promise they'll be much, much briefer than this ![]()

That is so awesome. (I won't lie, it was my first assumption when you said you had things come up a couple months ago; been there done that with my wife ).So very happy for you, and if you keep running through the preggo, that's even more Ironwoman than my measly 70.3. Two years ago one of my best friends ran Ragnar with me while she was a few months pregnant. Women do it all the time! Bean ran a bit when she was pregnant, but we had complications here and there for other reasons so she had to lay off per doctors orders. We still walked a TON though. Bean actually still loves her preggo maternity yoga pants. to talking to yourself. Funny how the no protection + lots of sex = kiddos, isn't it? ![]() Will you share the due date with us? As for my 7+ pounds, I have no fetus in my belly to blame it on. I'm quite sure it's mostly water weight, but I have stuffed my face all week. I think I told you all that I had wicked salt cravings early in the week. I countered those with a lot of water so my body was retaining water like crazy. I weighed myself today before my lunch run (which went very well!) and I'm back to just a couple pounds more than pre-race, so I'm back to even. No knee pain so it was perfect. Definitely a little rustiness but it felt so good to get out and shake out the legs. |
