So very happy for you, and if you keep running through the preggo, that's even more Ironwoman than my measly 70.3.

Two years ago one of my best friends ran Ragnar with me while she was a few months pregnant. Women do it all the time! Bean ran a bit when she was pregnant, but we had complications here and there for other reasons so she had to lay off per doctors orders. We still walked a TON though. Bean actually still loves her preggo maternity yoga pants.

to talking to yourself. Funny how the no protection + lots of sex = kiddos, isn't it?

Will you share the due date with us?

As for my 7+ pounds, I have no fetus in my belly to blame it on. I'm quite sure it's mostly water weight, but I have stuffed my face all week. I think I told you all that I had wicked salt cravings early in the week. I countered those with a lot of water so my body was retaining water like crazy. I weighed myself today before my lunch run (which went very well!) and I'm back to just a couple pounds more than pre-race, so I'm back to even. No knee pain so it was perfect. Definitely a little rustiness but it felt so good to get out and shake out the legs.
Thanks PG! Due date is in late Jan Everything I've heard/read says that if it feels good (well, good is a relative word)- keep doing it. Seeing as I was running quite a bit before I became preggo- there's no reason not to keep doing it as long as possible. And I do walk quite a bit too- especially on extra hot and/or nauseous days. Or dizzy days. Or days where my balance is waaaay off for no reason. Or days of extreme exhaustion. You get the picture Better to walk rather than doing nothing

Glad your body has sorted itself out- I figured most of that weight was water retention. Your body was so po'd at you for what you did to it, it decided to store every little bit of food and water you gave it in case you decided to do something so stupid again. Excellent job on the lunch run

PG - yep, carbs and salt will retain you a bunch of water. I'm betting your body chemistry was out of wack too. After my marathon I felt fine for a couple of days but then on the 3rd or 4th day I felt so bad I took a day off work. Just my body sorting itself out after being abused.

Buggirl - congratulations to you!!! Is this your first? Big ups for keeping up with the exercise. You're not sick just preggers, so pay attention to your body and don't go crazy, you can stay active a long ways into it.

BTW the talk test applies whether you have a bun in the oven or not ... 90% of your training should be easy like that. Another clue I use is breathing pattern - if I am breathing one cycle every 4 steps I know I have crossed over into a harder workout. One every 6 steps or better yet not locked into a rhythm means I'm still working fairly easy. If you want to get anal buy yourself a HRM and keep it under 80% of max, maybe well under in your case.

Thanks David and Neil Neil- yes, this is our first

Had a pretty good, very sweaty run this morning- had to walk some towards the end due to a strong desire to pull a JG No complaints, though- anytime a poop comes easily these days, I feel like throwing a little party TMI? Tough crap- nobody said pregnancy was pretty

Congratulations to you...and to Mr. BG for getting all that sex!

Also congratulations on pooping and glad you thought of me. Start looking for a good deal on a Baby Jogger now!

As for me, I made it through the first month of Insanity and ended up with a pretty nicely pulled groin muscle. I have backed off from Insanity as I notice it most when I do those workouts, and when I do the BG (doing the BG is the action, not to be confused with doing BG, which I leave to Mr. BG).

I have made it through a busy week, just in time to write a race report about a friend.

I'm already pricing out jogging strollers- not cribs, or clothes, or regular strollers, or any of those other necessities yet. But def. jogging strollers Priorities, right? As for doing the BG Hope your injury heals soon- I'm sure if you ask nicely, your wife will help with a PT massage

Waiting for that report, btw- you do know it's Sunday, right? Which is the last day of the weekend. The weekend where you promised to write a report.

Buggy & baby buggy! ..Rubber baby buggy bumpers! LOL sorry, it was a tongue twister we used to say as kids.

I am thrilled for you and for all of us to have a baby joining our running thread! Once that kid gets a faster pace than me, he/she is out of the club!

Your post was incredibly endearing. I love that you talk to the bean about Zoe and Zoe about the bean. Softens even my ice cold bitchy heart!

I have to say, I'm going to enjoy hearing about your preggo-ness and what it's like from a running perspective. I am always fascinated by the pregnancy process and how our bodies can do the most amazing things - like move a bunch of super important internal organs around to make room for baby and we don't keel over. It just proves that women are superior to men because we're super human. Of course, I have opted to avoid internal organ shuffling by having mutts instead of babies but I love when all my sistahs out there have babies!!

Congrats again! Much love & positive vibes to the Buggy family from the Girlie family (haha Steve will love that).

So when I finally meet you and Steve, can I call him Mr. Girlie? That would probably be the last time he talked to me....

Thanks Becca- I'm definitely fascinated (and sometimes disgusted) by the whole pregnancy process. For someone with a biology background, it certainly puts a different spin on everything you learn in school! It's like the mother of all lab classes In the first ultrasound pics, the little bean looks like an alien demon with glowing, evil eyes I guess that's about what I should've expected from my spawn

And just to add my dos pesos to the running thread (finally!)- I'm going to give a little description of my new running lifestyle for any lurkers out there that may be interested (or any of you sickos that this has zero relevance for): Running for 2- my story of attempting to stay in shape while knocked up I had a clue something was up when my short training run was off by more than a minute per mile. I was further convinced that something was definitely up when I almost vomited all over myself repeatedly on my last long run. Yup- I was pregnant. While I knew it was a possibility, I didn't really think it would happen so quickly Turns out if you stop using protection and have a bunch of sex, you can get pregnant. Who knew?

So you all know I walked my half- my doctor said it would be too risky to run given that it was my first one. That marked the end of my running career (save one sad attempt at running that failed miserably) for the next 2.5 months. I've just recently gotten back on that horse after a not-so-hot first trimester.

So- running for 2. It's awesome. And sometimes awful. It really depends on the day. Prevailing wisdom from my doctor, midwives, yoga instructor, and a personal trainer friend is that a good rule of thumb is to make sure you can carry on a conversation while running. This may mean dropping your pace significantly. That's not really an option for me Also, since I'm alone on the trail- I have to carry on a conversation with either Zoe, or the bean. I frequently talk to one about the other. "Now you know it's not ok to pull Zoe's hair or poke her in the eye. She doesn't like that." "You're going to have to stop rolling in so much poop- I'm not going to have you getting poop all over our child". And so on. I really hope nobody is listening

Sometimes I have to walk up the steepest hills and even that leaves me quite winded. Sometimes I feel just great, like there's nothing different about my body. I'm sticking to 3 miles/run, and trying to run at least 3 times/week. I know I'm going to have to adjust to changing hormones and obviously my changing body, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to keep running until close to the end of my pregnancy. I've also started prenatal yoga, which rocks (and is free!). I love the instructor. I'm still lifting weights, but I had to drop the weight significantly, which was frustrating. Who knew it was so hard on your body to create another human life? Anyways, if it doesn't bore you all to tears, I'll give little descriptions of my good and bad runs from time to time. I promise they'll be much, much briefer than this
congratulations. My two boys are the greatest thing I have ever been a part of. I am happy for you!

I delivered both of my boys. The doctor let me pull them both out. It is the single, times two, most fascinating, emotional, awesome, incredible thing I have ever done. They are now 16 and 15 and every day it just gets better.

Uno, get your ass out there, start running, measure your times to the thousandth, run a race and get back with us on that.

Vegas was fun. I had a $29 per night room at the Orleans, my favorite, and they upgraded me to a $2,000 per night suite. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, bar, living room, 6 tvs.....Im not sure what I did to deserve that but it was awesome.

The temperature averaged around 110. Friday out at Lake Mead we had 114. The hottest I had when I lived there was 122 in the shade on my back porch. I don't miss that part of it.

Two points.

1. The doc tried to let me deliver my son and allow me to cut the cord, but it freaked me out and I thought I was going to cut one of his fingers off. So when my daughter popped out, I was happy to let the doc do the work.

2. Whatever connection you have to the at 2,000 suite, let me know as I may be out there in October.

I didn't do any exercise today, but I watched my kids swim and I made major revisions to PG's race report, so those things have gotta count for something.

Plus, I am still nursing this pulled groin, wondering if I have jevans hernia.

Not sure how I ended up with that suite. The Orleans is my favorite hotel in Vegas. Most of the time their rates are $59-$69 and all rooms are mini-suites. I just got lucky this time with the 2 bedroom suite. That thing was bigger than my wife and I's first apartment in Vegas 20+ years ago. Plus they have great restaurants, movie theaters, bars, $5 black jack, etc.
