I simply got to know the first immigration guy I came across. That took about 2 minutes. He knew exactly how to navigate the process.

Did you "ride for free" or pay the toll

there are always people trying to get between you and the person who can help you
i have found it is better to go directly to the person who can help and cut out the middle man
of course they will tell you you need them, but it ain't true
ni modo, if you get yer papeles, an extra buck here and there doesn't really matter

those are the "Coyotes" just looking for victims outside government offices, to make some easy money.

Back to the original poster:
A route through Laredo is easy.
Drive from PdC to Chetumal, then Escarcega, Veracruz (or you may skip Veracruz and touch Cordoba), Puebla and after San Martin Texmelucan take the ARCO NORTE by-pass to skip Smogcity and continue to Queretaro and a straight route to Laredo.

I made a Google Maps route for you, here is the link

If you are thinking of driving back to the U.S./canada from Mexico, read the U.S. Department of State's list of cities/states/areas to avoid while driving through Mexico. Visit this site at: Mexico .

Driven to Playa from the States 5 times with the last time being this past September. Headed to Austin, TX May 8th to pick up my car, drive it to Panama City, FL, put in on a Linea Pensinsular Shipping Co. ship and ship it to Progresso and then I will pick it up there. In Panama City I will pick up a rental car and drive to Orlando and hit Disney World, Universal, etc. : )

My car is a bigger than stardard size and it cost $605 to ship in a container. Shipping cost will be based on length x width x height of your vehicle.
At less than 14 MPG (weight of my vehicle is just under 5000 pounds), I would had used about $500 USD in fuel alone if I drove.

The Google map is very nice. I live fairly close to Laredo. Just wondering how long the drive would take? We are not brave enough to do it....I don't think.

We just received a quote from Linea for our 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Shipping from Panama City to Progresso = $605.

Here's the link:

Wow. You really don't want to drive! What about your expenses from Austin to Panama City? Motels, food, etc.

Flying Cancun to Austin May 8th.

Driving:
Austin, TX to Playa = 1785 miles
Austin, TX to Panama City, Fl = 812 miles
Equals just about 1000 less driving miles and (probably) alot safer trip.

Austin to Playa = four days or so on the road.
Austin to Panama City = could do it in one day but will probably spend the night in either Baton Rouge or New Orleans = party .

Then a night or two on Panama City Beach . That is once my car is in the hands of Linea Peninsular Shipping.
Picking up rental car in Panama City and will head to DISNEYWORLD, UNIVERSAL, etc., etc. Rooms booked in Orlando for 3 nights already. Fly back Orlando to Cancun on May 22nd. And my friend is traveling with me from Austin to Orlando eventually.
A mini vacation from my maxi vacation .
