My fastest drive from Playa to Brownsville was roughly 36 hours, but then we drove day and night.

Typically, it takes 4 days but 6-8 is realistic if you're looking to explore and enjoy the drive.

BING Maps (formerly Mapblast) puts the drive from Laredo to Playa at a distance of 1576 miles and a driving time of 30 hours 36 minutes.
When I last drove to Playa in September (Los Indios, TX to Playa), I drove dawn to dusk and made the trip in 2 nights and made it to Playa mid-afternoon of the third day, so about 35 hours on the road.

At less than 14 MPG (weight of my vehicle is just under 5000 pounds), I would had used about $500 USD in fuel alone if I drove.
They quoted me over $1,600 for a 20ft container. And the drive to Panama City, FL is only 800 miles shorter for me. $200 in fuel, and I can't ship even a small car for $200. :-(
