Riu Palace Mexico

Just about to pull the trigger on a week long stay at the RPM with my girlfriend.

We're in our late 20's, but surprisingly this is my first ever time going to Mexico and to an all-inclusive. She's done a few in the past with big groups, but it was they went for the party scene.

Our primary focus now is good food, but most importantly a nice beach.

I've noticed in some photos from tripadvisor that there appears to be a "double beach" and by that I mean there seem to be two levels due to the erosion of the coast.

Does the RPM have a nice beach? And a nice enough beach to warrant the slightly higher cost vs. the Yucatan. The money doesn't really matter to me, but most importantly I want her to enjoy a nice beach.

As well, if any one has any tips or suggestions for us I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Is there a dress code at dinner we need to be aware of?

I am going to the Yucatan next month. I looked through many hotels and made sure the beach was perfect before booking b/c I am all about the beach. I don't like looking at dark patches in the ocean, I like clean beautiful sand, hotel not far from the beach, pretty calm waters for my kids to swim.
I don't know about the Palace but it does look stunning and if you want her to feel like a Princess I'd take her there. From what I saw on trip advisor Palce more upscale with marble maybe and Yucatan more relaxed and mexican decore. Keep looking at online photos to check eg)utube it, call a travel agent and ask them too. Someone must know. Happy travels for 2012

rpm and the yucatan are side by side, so they are the same beach really.
at the rpm men have to wear pants at the ala cartes except for the steakhouse wear you can wear shorts. buffet is pants too.
if youre looking for more upscale then go for rpm. you can visit the yucatan if you want and see what youre not missing also, the rpm tends to be a bit on the quiet side, but thats ok, as that means no slamming doors, no drunks running aorund at 3am pissing everyone off, etc. once the activity dies down at rpm, head over to the tequila across the street if you want to go late.
service is great at rpm...beach is great...ambiance is nice for couples or a group of friends....food is pretty good. go and enjoy! go for a courtyard room too...i recommend 1053...we had it and it was great...second floor, mid building, closest to the beach...over looking fountains. nice.

...if you like gorgeous wide beaches with beautiful palm trees and plenty of loungers...then the riu palace mexico and riu yucatan are great choices...the riu palace mexico has a beach bar and hammocks...they also have waiter service on the beach at the palace...the yucatan's pool area is fun fun fun!...lively and with a great animacion and bar staff, the views of the beach and caribbean from the yucatan pool and plaza area are spectacular...i've stayed at both numerous times...and would stay at either again in a heartbeat!...

Here is the dress code for yucatan so i am positive that palace is same

In the main restaurant wear t shirts with sleeves for men and for the themed restrnt wear trousers and tshirt for men.

What i get from that is buffet no shirt no shoes no service and when you make a reservation wear your pants. Now what kind? talked to my hubby about this and he thought he could wear his jeans. His jeans look nice and are not cheap so prob could get away with it...
yucatan 2012 woo hoo

...jeans qualify for the "long pants" requirement for men at dinner...although, depending on the time of the year, you might find them a bit heavy and warm...my husband takes a few pairs of light fabric long pants, and will sometimes change to shorts immediately after dinner if the evening is especially warm...

...you'll find dos equis at the riu's...they do have lager and dark beers...refrigerators are stocked with dos equis lager...

...do yourself a favor, if you haven't already tried one--order a chelada...that's lager over ice and fresh lime juice in a salt-rimmed glass...the ice helps keep you hydrated, the salt keeps your sodium levels safe, and the lime...well...they do say that citrus can keep away scurvy...i'm all about health when i'm enjoying my cerveza...

Rainbow you are the best! Thanks for all your wonderful comments. Hey Everybody don't forget to bring an insulated mug to keep drinks cool. I read that the cups are small and your drink does not stay cold for long. My husband insulated mug is HUGE! I'm so cold here in Alberta- I'll go make some tea to warm up.

...thanks!...happy to help...insulated mugs work great...just order "two at a time" drinks, and pour them right into your mug, or ask them to fill it for you!...

Being in your twenties, you might prefer the Riu Palace Riviera Maya more then the RPM. Just saying, a much livelier pool. We enjoy staying at the RPM and visiting the other because it is more quiet. Depends on what you want.

I agree, we had a lot of people, staying at the Mexico, that came to the Rivera Maya pool every day last September. All said it was much better.

...riu palace mexico has a quiet pool side, and the more lively side (where swim up bar and volleyball is played)...true enough, though, that the rprm is livelier...we were with a guy and gal in their twenties, and they found the riu palace mexico to be great fun...we did spend one afternoon at the rprm pool and that was a fun excursion too!...

Thanks for the suggestions - but the trip is now booked at the Palace Mexico. We're okay with a quiet pool as we both prefer the beach anyways.

Maybe next time! I think we'll make due!
