Another vote for The Royal.

One of the Riu Palaces would be my second choice of the ones you have mentioned.

We were in your shoes before our first trip. I looked and looked at different resorts. Asked Shammy countless questions. (I still do) Finally we just picked a resort. We had an awesome time, and I think we would have at any of the resorts on our list and I bet you will too. You won't know until you go but you said you two have fun together. That's all you need right there.

The Royal is IMO a no brainer ... probably why we are not giving it to much thought. It really has everything we need....maybe not quite what we want ...but absolutely a great first trip.

This might just come down to picking a name out of a hat ....

$2-3 each. It used to be $2 but I think it's gone up a bit, hence why I have $2 to $3.

Yes, it runs up and down the hwy. From the Barcelo you walk out to the street. (Not a long walk) In the morning there will be crowds of people doing the same thing. Totally easy. They are vans that run up and down the hwy. Cheap and easy. Do the same in reverse. (Or pay the colectivo to get to town and a cab to take you back.) Still cheaper.

The colectivo is a little harder when there are 6 of you in a group but for 2 people there's most always room.

We have never stayed at the Royal but it get's great reviews from everyone we know that's stayed there and right on the beach in town.

We'll be going back again just after you in Dec., but staying in town.

Iberostar Tucan|Quetzel

Just trying to dig a little deeper into the resort we have already selected. Was curious about the Junior Suite at the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzel just cause so many people are recommending it. It is also the happy medium between the Barcelo and the Royal as far as location and atmosphere. Had a tough time finding any good images or videos of what the Jr Suite looked like and finally came across a you tube video. I was rather impressed, ocean view/ocean front appears to be rather nice and just on the high end of our budget.

(YouTube Video) Iberostar Tucan - Building 10, Room 1027

Jut an opinion ... But don't pay extra for an ocean view unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room. We are hardly ever in our room and when we are we are asleep

Now I have a ? Is a collectivo the bus?

mini bus, basically a passenger van .... more like a shuttle that runs along the highway. I assume that their goal is to collect people and drop them off as they roll along their route..thus the name collectivo..

There are buses and also there are cabs that will bring you to and from a specific destination.
