Akumal trip

We wanted to go from Playacar to Akumal beach. Whats the best way of getting there besides a collectivo? How much is a taxi there and where would we tell them to take us to?

We just told the driver Lol Ha restaurant. He knew where it was and it is right on the bay next to the dive shop.

You can't get a colectivo right in Playacar, you have to walk into Playa and get one from the stand on Calle 2 between 15th and 20th. Taxi is the way to go if you want door to door transportation - to leave directly from Playacar and be dropped off right in Akumal.

$30 each way. At least that's what it was a couple of years ago. You should be able to find a rental car for the day for about the same cost.

You overpaid by $8
Actually, you overpaid by a good bit more since the fares were cheaper then.
The fare now is 285 pesos. (Approx. $22)

EDIT: Corrected my incorrect figures

If that's the regular rate sheet for the Playa area, it might be more than that. I've found that AI hotels have their own rate sheets from the syndicate, possibly because they are performing a "service" by picking you at the hotel lobby. So ask the bellman what the fare is to Akumal and if you think it's too much, walk down from the hotel lobby to the road and see if you can flag a taxi down.

Rick - you'd roll over if you knew what Linda and I paid for taxi's in Puerto Morelos last week. It was ridiculous!

The taxis waiting outside hotels normally charge extra because they are waiting at or near that hotel, something similar to the taxi mafia at the airport. It's like an "exclusivity" fee, because they could be wandering around other places instead of "wasting" time waiting for passengers.

That's my life story with those Taxi's, always pay more than I should have. That's why I avoid them when at all possible and rent a car or use a collectivo.
