ATM Bank machines

We have been here a month now and find the ATM's at Banamex ,Mega
and Walmart won't accept our new RBC bank cards with the chip imbedded in it.. Fortunately I bought an older card with no chip and it works in most ATM's . Anyone else had this issue in Playa .

Well anyone coming to downtown Playa del Carmen over the next few months ,be prepared for a hassle at the ATMs as we have been here six weeks and have personally experienced at least 15 people not able to get Pesos from the bank ATM's and are hearing of many more . Anyone with Debit cards with the new chip won't work.. This is becoming a serious issue for people needing cash . This one fella needed a 1000.00 dollars to pay for a condo and was running around Playa looking for a place his card might work.

Scotia ATMS work fine with a chip card as mentioned before.
Try one, you might like it.

I have an RBC card with a chip in it...have ALWAYS used Scotiabank and continue to do so.
I noticed this week (was just here 3 wks ago and it was different)...they have replaced the ATM machines at Scotiabank. The trick is..you have to REMOVE your ATM card as soon as you put it in...ie do not leave it in machine which you had to previously. If you leave it in, the ads just keep circulating and nothing happens. When you remove your card...you can carry on.
Works for me so hopefully should work for you too.

Well maybe at Scotia Bank the chip card will work but it sure won't at
the Banamex ,HSBC,Inbursa,Bancomer at Mega or Walmart Banamex and
Banamex bank 10ave X 12St. which we have tried at least 6 times over
the past 5-6 weeks. I feel like going in to speak with the manager but we
may have a language issue .

SCOTIA BANK has two locations..we always use the one @ Constituentes[sp] and 10 ave...never a problem!

...and if you use a Scotia Card, you will notice no fees.

In the past, I have often used the Scotia Bank ATM's and never had a problem. But then, maybe they don't know I'm not Canadian.

However, maybe just 'cause I speak Canadian ...

Trying to get money sounds a little stressful for me while I'm on my vacation...I think I will just bring the $$ with me

Really not that difficult at all unless something has changed alot since last year....
I used ATM's at Mega,Walmart, and my usual at Scotia on 5th all with a chipped card.

Hey Rob, is the Scotia ATM at Juarez and 5th back up and working now? You mentioned they took them out - have they replaced them now?
