I guess this was not a tongue-in-cheek legislation. She is serious.

Quote:
Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner introduced a bill last week that would force any male to undergo sex therapy, get a cardiac stress test and present a notarized affidavit signed by a sexual partner verifying impotency in order to get a prescription for any erectile dysfunction drug, such as Viagra.
Quote:
"It's not a joke," Turner told The Plain Dealer this week. "I'm dead serious. I want to continue this strong dialogue about what is fair and what is equal. It is crucial that we take the appropriate steps to shelter vulnerable men from the potential side effects of these drugs," she said in a written statement. The men in our lives, including members of the General Assembly, generously devote time to fundamental female reproductive issues. The least we can do is return the favor."
It will never pass.

Gov. Jan Brewer said Friday that pending Arizona legislation on health plan coverage for birth control drugs could make it “a little bit uncomfortable for women” using contraception for reasons other than avoiding pregnancy.

The bill would allow all employers with religious and moral objections to birth control to refuse to provide coverage for that purpose through their health plans. Those employers would still have to provide coverage for contraception drugs for other medical reasons but could make women seeking reimbursements explain why they needed it.

Ms. Brewer said she had not yet studied the legislation, which is sponsored by a Republican representative.

“But I certainly would probably agree with the majority of people that would be a little bit uncomfortable for a woman to have to go to her employer and tell him or her their private health issues,” she said.
I'm thinking even Jan Brewer will veto this GOP sponsored garbage.

Mr. Smith? Hi, it's Suzy from Payroll. Could we make an appointment to talk about my reasons for taking the pill? You see, I have a really heavy flow and and extreme cramping during my menstrual cycle....I know, it's embarrassing! Been taking the pill since high school on my doctor's orders. Well, if I stopped, I might have to have a D&C, you know, where they scrape out the lining of your uterus because it's all gunked up? Anyways, I'd really like to discuss these ultra personal details with you, preferably in person. I'd hate for you to think I'm on the pill because I'm a slut. Or because after two kids my husband and I decided we don't want a third. Or, you know, any of those other frivolous, "life style" reasons. Yes, do please invite the insurance compliance dude. He's my age and I've never met him, so who better to be in on a conversation about my uterus?

To bad it is getting even uglier that that. The war against being a woman is getting crazier and uglier every day that goes by.

This week the Georgia State legislature debated a bill in the House, that would make it necessary for a woman to carry a stillborn baby until she 'naturally' goes into labor just as, according to Representative Terry England, pregnant cows and pigs do.

Just before the Idaho's Senate passed the bill, which requires woman to have an ultrasound prior to obtaining an abortion, opponents of the bill pointed out that it makes no exception for rape victims, incest victims or women in medical emergencies.

Winder, a Republican from Boise, responded to those concerns by raising the question of whether women understand when they have been raped.

“Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this," Winder said on the Senate floor. "I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that's part of the counseling that goes on.”

This man should not be in office, hell, he should not be allowed out of a cage.

It is kinda funny people will go nutso over how woman are treated by certain sects of Islam but are ignorant to what is happening to woman's rights in the name of the Christian "god." It may not be as violent but it is slowly becoming just as oppressive. How much farther will this war on womanhood go before we say ENOUGH and get those who support such legislation out of office?

Luckily the US is made up of separate states. Each state which seems to have its own personality. Some states can be grouped together with similar personalities. Not many states will fall into the category being described here. Although every state has its share of whack job legislators.

Yeah, I'm aware of the different characters of the states - I was more talking about the fact that the women's rights issue is being discussed in the terms that it is; it seems... I don't know, old fashioned.

In 2011, over 1,000 anti-choice restrictions and anti-women's health care initiatives were put before state legislators. 135 of them were passed in 36 states, making it a record year.

Not to mention the platforms of the GOP candidates currently vying for the Presidency. Susan B. Komen's action to defund their Planned Parenthood grants. Oh, and of course, the very topic of this thread.

This is not just an anecdotal whack job state legislator issue, not by a longshot.
