Win 7 and Trojan

This morning, I grabbed a cup of coffee and is my Sat morning ritual, sat in my recliner to peruse the boards. I opened FFCars and was immediately assualted with error messages after which icons started disappearing from my desktop.
I tried to intercept it with Windows Security Essentials, Malware Bytes and adaware to no avail.
Ended up having to do a system restore to a couple of days ago.

I then ran malware bytes again and it found two trojans that must have been loaded when I downloaded a guy's piano sheet music rendition.. I thought to myself when I DL'd them that I forgot to run a scan on them....but who puts a virus on piano sheet music? Apparently nothing is safe!

OK so now here is my dilema! Windows restore says none of my documents or pics were deleted. Yet all those folders are empty...along with all my favorites.

I lost All Documents, sheet music, family pictures (lots of them!).

Does restore put copies of files somewhere? Anyone have any idea of how to recover them or am I screwed?

I'm thinking that Restore has nothing to do with the missing files.
I'm thinking it was the trojan.
I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Happened to me a few weeks ago. Everything is most likely still there. But everything is now hidden. I downloaded something and ran it so everything came back to visible, although not everything was in the same place.

I don't remember what it was I downloaded and ran to make everything visible again.

A free product called unhide.exe downloadable from bleepingcomputers.com has simplified the restoration process for me on quite a few occasions.

And all of this is why I'm considering replacing my sons' win box with an IPad.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking.
You're running an O/S that has about 5% market share. Not much fun for the morons (hackers) of the world to infect an O/S that doesn't have market share. (I think under the covers your O/S is unix, and the first worm was a unix sendmail worm). Boss is really happy with his Apple, maybe I can sucker him into buying me one.

Over 10% now

Higher in laptops

Has grown many time fasters than the overall computer market every quarter for the past 5 years.

Include iPads, and it is number one in market share, USA.

Sucker him, Mike, sucker him

Here is what a friend recently wrote me, an anti-Mac, pro-Windows bigot kind of guy for years and years. These are comments from the Facebook photo of me using the iPad on the Oregon Coast.
