Tequila
Hi all. Been a long time since I've been on here. We've got just a little more than a month to go before we head down. So excited! When we are at home we have our favorites cocktails and drinks. But the last few years, while in Playa, we have stuck to Tequila for our "cocktail hour" on the balcony before we head out to dinner in the evening. We found a couple of tequila's we enjoyed alot(sipping quality not shots). The bottles are gorgeous but I can't help but think we must pay for that gorgeous bottle. I would love to bring them home but can't since we carry on. Is there a good quality tequila in a more plain bottle? I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question.

Do recall which ones you had ? If I had to guess one may have been Clase Azul ( white and blue hand painted bottle) which is a very tasty reposado. There are many decent anejo's for less money, although the Clase Azul has a very distinct flavour. What were you hoping to spend and are you thinking anejo since you mentioned sipping ? |

I was at my local Sam's Club and came across a bottle of Calle Azul Anejo that is a private label for Sam's Clubs It was priced at $9.99.I decided to buy a bottle for that price. I have yet to try it. Has anyone seen this or tried it ? I would doubt it's available in Mexico.I did read some positive reviews.Although reviews are usually subjective

Gran Centanario is a good sipping tequila for everyday and you can get it reasonably at Mega. Also, one of my personal favorites for everyday , and the third rated blanco tequila on "Fiftybest.com", is the Hornitos Plata. Great price point and and a real nice fruity agave flavor. The Reposado is good too but not as highly rated as others that might be better bang for the buck in that category.
MMMMM Tequila!!!!!!!

That’s a very interesting question, since my feeling is that some of the best tequilas are found in more plain bottles. You bet you're paying for that fancy bottle, and, some are hiding the fact that the contents just aren't that great, so they jazz up the bottle instead. (Think: blind taste test).
Some tequilas with the fancy, ornate bottles are poor quality imho, but most tequila connoisseurs agree, given the ratings. Clase Azul anejo doesn’t even make it into the top 20, and I couldn’t agree more. Check out El Tesoro de Don Felipe or Casa Noble repo or anejo. Or Chamucos, blanco or repo. Or Arrette. Awesome, and no fancy bottles. Any of these, plain bottles, and much better than Clase Azul. Trust me.

You do yourself a disservice by not trying as many tequilas as you can before making a decison. Buy whatever tastes good to you. My go to at home is Casa Noble due to the price. I'd also been told that until I tried Don Julio 1942 I was missing out, but it failed to impress me. However, I love the unique taste of Clase Azul and I'd drink it if it came in a plastic jug. Discovering what I prefered was the real fun.

As for shots or sipping tequila, I'm no expert, but I think it's pretty good for that too ![]() Tim |
