You know that Bruce Springsteen is playing the Apollo Theater in New York this coming March. That historical venue has a capacity of 1500 people.

What does the Boss' choice of playing the Apollo tell you about his capacity to fill seats at larger venues?

Absolutely nothing.

This is what our Twin Cities fish wrap had to say about Adele after her sold-out concert (10,000 people, for what it's worth).

Adele shows why she's adorable | StarTribune.com

Directly relevant to the conversation at hand.

I thought my point was abundantly clear - the choice by a major star to play smaller venues says nothing about their ability to draw a crowd, as you seem to be claiming with regards to your comments about Adele. The woman plays more intimate venues because it suits her and her style of music, not because she has no choice in the matter.

Anyway, my posts on this particular topic really have more to do with pointing out your hypocrisy and less to do with banging the drum for Adele. I mean, you do realize that you are engaged in the very same kind of uninformed criticism of this artist as you rail against when other folks do the same about Lady Gaga?

Oh, so women can't be themselves, down-to-earth, making music for the joy of making music or people get "bored" with them? Some musicians don't crave nor need the ego-boost that the likes of GaGa obviously needs. GaGa obviously needs to have some strange kind of divine limelight bestowed upon her in order to feel accomplished and successful. Adele is obviously comfortable enough with who she is that she just wants to play her music for serious music fans who want to just hear music, without the over-hyped, circus fanfare.

Because Jimmy didn't say the same things as you have - not the stuff that I'm finding fault with, anyway. Jimmy didn't say that despite all objective evidence to the contrary, Adele was some "flash in the pan" ala Tracy Chapman, nor did he posit that her value as an artist was somehow directly correlated with the size of the venue she performs in.

OK, you're getting ganged up on a bit here.

But just so you now know, she's in the Royal Albert Hall, the size isn't important, it's one of the most famous and beautiful venues in London.

I would pay just about any amount of money to see that show. I saw Bruce at the Guthrie Theater, seating 1,500, here in Minneapolis in 1975. I've seen far more concerts than the average person and not one has come close to the quality of that performance. I believe almost everyone who attended that show would say the same thing.

Jimmy
She actually suffers from terrible stage fright. I always find that interesting that someone can muster up the courage to fight through the fright to get up there and sing (or act or give a speech). I don't think you'll ever see her do any kind of choreographed dance moves or super high energy stuff. I'd would be interested in seeing her do more blues -- kind of like a Janice Joplin kind of thing. I don't see her ever being bubble gum pop like Katy Perry, etc.

I will be interested in seeing where her career takes her. Who knows, I could be completely wrong. I just don't want to see her go to this useless performance art crap that some people do.

Disappointing. yuck yuck yuck. Music isn't only about monetary gain, being famous, or having some monster following. Even Lady Gaga knows that.

One artist. One listener. Pure enjoyment. That is all it takes.
