We have a 10 year old foam matress and have been looking for a new one for several weeks. We have made multiple trips to a variety of stores to make sure we select a matress with which we will be happy. Each trip both my wife and I come to the same conclusion ... we both LOVE the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Luxe model. Of course, at $4,500 for a king size matress, it is one of the highest priced matresses on the market.

But they do give a 10 year full coverage warranty followed by a 10 year prorated warranty. Assuming we keep it for only 10 years, thats $450 per year. I pay more than that per year to have my garbage hauled away. It's a lot up front, but we think it will be worth every penny. We plan to purchase in the next few weeks.

That is the 'bowling ball mattress'- right? Simmons Beautyrest? Then that. A higher end model with a MF topper. Because Don is so restless and I am such a light sleeper.

One that is all memory foam- he is a furnace and I have read they get very hot...although we have a 3" topper right now and it is good, so who knows.

I slept on one at a hotel once and it was heavenly. (the Beautyrest.)

And then I slept on a Sleep Number bed at a hotel last summer- it sucked!!

But we have to buy a different house with a larger bedroom to fit a king first.

We ended up buying a Beautyrest Black, it think it is their top of the line. We tried it at Macy's and fell in love with it. The one we got is not a pillowtop but is called a "cushion firm". We ended up buying it on line at Sweet Dreams Mattress offers a variety of mattresses and futons in Charlotte and surrounding areas at affordable rates., and ended up saving about $600. We haven't gotten it yet, probably be another week or so.

We bought a headboard and matching foundation from Ikea, so we ended up not needing the boxspring with the mattress. Our bedroom is really small also, but I was determined to fit the bed in there. I think it will be okay.

Is a "foundation" and boxspring the same thing? I've seen the beds at IKEA and was thinking that is the way to go: cheap bed frame, expensive mattress. I thought you still need a boxspring, though?

I will look at that one when the time comes.

I think our bedroom is only about 11 by 12....big enough but not big enough for it and our furniture as well.

I was also wondering about boxsprings and if you could get away with one of those Ikea foundations....so long as it is strong enough it seems like you should be able to.

Some beds don't require a boxspring.

Our bedroom is only about that size... let's just say it will be a tight fit!

Here are links to the headboard and foundation we are getting from Ikea, except we are getting the king set. We also got legs so the bed will sit off the floor. If we got a boxspring also, I would need a ladder to get into bed

Our turn. I'll let you know what we get. We currently have a 15 year old something, queen size. For the last 5 years we added a 2" memory foam topper, it saved my back. Requirements: King size (the cats take up a lot of room), movement isolation (I have to be able to ride a bicycle in my sleep, and let Bonny sleep).

This is the one we got Beautyrest Black Desiree Plush Firm... it's nice. We tried it out at Macy's but then bought it from the website I posted which saved us about $600 (you have to call to get the best price). Anyway it's nice! Steve has restless leg syndrome and he never disturbs me now

The salesman blushed slightly, tripped over a few words, and then provided something of an answer. It isn't so much that it is difficult, he said. "It's just that coils give you bounce, which you don't get on memory foam. It's a lot more physically intense because you're not getting any help from the bed."

Hmmm...interesting!

I think I WILL stick with the Simmons Beautyrest after all, after reading this.

What did Mike W and Bonnie end up buying?

How are you liking your Beautyrest, Mercy?

We were looking at a Kingsdown at Sears last week...anyone have any info on that brand?
