Cataracts

Has anyone had the surgery?

I went for my regular check up and the Optometrist told me I have the begginings. I see an Opthalmologist next month.

I watched a video online and now I am a bit freaked out about them cutting on my eyeball! I'm one of those people that have problems putting eyedrops in! The thought of me looking away just as they cut and then having a horrible result sort of has me on edge!

I had the surgery when I was 40 - a while back
Easy peasy. I wore a patch for a couple of days.
Nothing to fear!

I had the surgery 3 years ago, nothing to it, had a great doctor. I can actually read with no help now, really glad I did it.

Had surgery on both eyes about 10 years back and they put freezing drops of some kind in my eyes before hand and I didn't feel a thing. They had a clamp to keep the position static. The whole procedure was quite painless. I was very happy with the results.

You don't SEE them doing anything, the work is done from the side of the eye. All done very quickly, it's done before you know it..really!

My sister in law just had it done, she was almost blind in one eye, it worked perfectly, no pain, now she has perfect vision.

This freaks me out to...

I can take dental work with no gas or shots...but putting something in my eye causes a major freak out..

Cataract surgery is painless.

My husband had cataracts removed from both eyes, now he doesn't even need glasses.

I had beginning stages removed. Mostly because I was tired of glasses and contact lenses.
You need to have complete confidence in your surgeon..if not go to another one who makes you feel comfortable. and confident. Do some reearch online..if you feel the need to. Also ask what outcome you will end up with and if that's what you are looking for from this surgery.
P.M. me if you wan't to..can give you some details. Results could depend on your current diagnosis.

Good News! had my follow up with an Opthalmologist. No cataracts. He was very surprised I was ever diagnosed with it.

I will NOT be going back to the previous eye guy that suggested I'd need surgery within 6 mos!

My dad just had the procedure a few weeks ago. He said that although the procedure was a snap and he is now cataract-free, he does have one lingering after-effect: after 70 years of wearing glasses, he now has to get used to near 20/20 vision!

Good to know you won't be having any unnecessary cutting of the eyeball, though.
